Re: Fingers crossed on adopting a hammy from RSPCA
I love what souffle has said, its exactly right
You can never guarantee 100% any hamster will be tame, but its amazing what just a bit of love and care can do.
I can imagine he feels quite insecure where he is now, which will not help his confidence, but in a permanent home with one to one attention i'm sure he'll make leaps and bounds in progress

Re: Fingers crossed on adopting a hammy from RSPCA
What souffle said is right
I also read a story of a person on here (can't remember who) who adopted a hamster that'd been pulled around by its back legs, so every time she went near them, it wet itself, but she worked and worked with it..and eventually it became ok with being touched there.
They really are remarkable animals. So resilient.. I just wish they didn't have to be >.<

Re: Fingers crossed on adopting a hammy from RSPCA
Thank you, i really do want to get him, just spent the whole night working out where i will put him. I was hoping the tank was going to fit on my shelfing unit but its too high by a few cms so have moved Steve into my bedroom, will see how noisy he is tonight and if i can sleep and see if Hubby can put up with it. Then if he is ok then i can put Goose where Steve use to be down stairs. Also in trouble with hubby for wanting another hamster ooopppss lol
I love what you wrote Souffle, it really touched me. I think that is very true with life and not just taming animals. I hope tomorrow i can get him. I have decided to put him in the spare tank cage so there are no bars to chew and escape through.

I like the regular 6 1/2 in silent spinners for dwarfs It is a good idea to tape the stand to the floor so they don't jump around as they run fast! I think he will also feel more secure in the tank type cage
I hope you get him.

Re: Fingers crossed on adopting a hammy from RSPCA
Well i have bought him home He is so cute and seems friendly. I held him at the centre and he didnt bite. Poor little this has been there since 18th August 2010!!!!!!!!!! He was 6 weeks old in the beginning of August So unwanted 2 weeks after he was bought from a pet shop. His cage didnt have a wheel. They had him in the cage he came in and the RSPCA dont have any money to buy things for all the animals . So he is going to have shock tonight as he will have his first wheel. He wasnt bothered by the drive home and went straight to sleep in his new house (i had put his new house in the carry case). He is white, they had him down as grey white when he came in so i wondered if he may be a winter white. He looks a bit dirty and in need of a good sand bath. Will get some pics up soon
I also got to hold a little baby bunny, it was so cute. They had 50 guinea pigs bought in from a welfare case. The owner had over 150 guinea pigs, about 30 + rabbits and 4 chinchillas. I felt so sorry for them So they has asked if i want to volunteer in the small animal section and come and help tame the animals up

Re: Fingers crossed on adopting a hammy from RSPCA
What a wonderful new start for this little hammy, I'm sure he knows already that he will be cared for and loved so much more than he has been so far in his short life. I love the name Goose, are you keeping it?! Looking forward to seeing photos!

Re: Fingers crossed on adopting a hammy from RSPCA
Aw Mandy so pleased to hear this! I adopted my Hamlet he did take a little while to feel comfortable with me but now he is just an amazing little guy. He's not mad about cuddles, but is happy to be picked up & loves his floortime he is the fastest of all the dwarves in our house. He just a cute ball of fluffness.
He lives in a Mini Duna & is perfectly at home in it. Oh & he is wheel daft.
Can't wait to see pictures of Goose.
With time & patience I'm sure he will be a great little fella to have. He just needed a lovely home to feel secure & you have given him it.
