Re: Let's See Your Cages (May 2016)
Hi, and welcome!
I noticed that you don't have a large enough upright wheel-flying saucer type wheels are no substitute for an upright wheel that is large enough. Unfortunately the size of the Habitrail Ovo wheel is only 6 inches, and a dwarf hamster will need at the minimum of 6.5 inches in diameter, depending on their species they might need a little more.
BTW, where is the ventilation for the bin cage?

If she can't fit through the tubes with full pouches then that could be dangerous for her Lady Glitter Sparkles, you do have quite a nice size bin there & she would probably enjoy it more if you put lots of deep substrate (as high as you can leaving room for the wheel) an upright wheel would be good, saucers aren't that bad but not ideal really, if you put all her toys in the bin & mesh the lid then it would make for a much safer & healthier environment, you could always use the ovo for out of cage play time in a playpen or ham safe area.

Re: Let's See Your Cages (May 2016)
Would like to know what others think of my Esmeralda's set-up, just after converting them, and before filling.
They are two 80cms x 40 cms bins, joined by a (new) sewer pipe. As you can see from the view through the pipe, it's not like a tunnel - she doesn't have to squeeze through it.
I know ideally it would be one long space, but it was a 'happy medium'

Re: Let's See Your Cages (May 2016)
Instead of connecting the bins with a pipe,I'd just remove the pipe and cut a panel of sorts and zip tie the bins together for a direct connection. This would mean you'd get the full floor space out of the bins rather than just an 80 x 40 cage with a modular extension You might need a flat and slightly elevated small container in between, but other than that it's not any more complicated than making holes for mesh!

I need to be able to dismantle the outfit easily and move her somewhere warmer in winter. That's why we went for the pipe-joining system. Plus this way I can cap off one bin when she in that side and clean the other side without disturbing her too much.
She's been in it three weeks now, and seems to be enjoying it.

The pipe looks plenty big enough so I think your bins are fine joined like that tbh.

The bin cage looks great It does look like the tubes leading from it are much smaller than the others - hammies can get stuck in tubes that aren't big enough so it might be an idea to replace those. I think minimum 6mm diameter is recommended although some hammies are larger than others and some people use rat sized tubes. If it's for a Syrian then, as the others say, you'll need to replacing the saucer with a 12" one. Or a wheel of 10 to 12".

Esmeralda is lovely I think she is lucky to have all that space, both bins are a good size. I would just make sure the pipe is very secure and she can't push it out and escape!
