Re: Afraid to go to the Pet Store....
Naa...I completely understand! Cage changes usually keep me awake...and odd squeaks...and if I have not heard any movement for a while...the list goes on and on.
But you could always go to them all...twice...just to be sure, and see what stock they have available before making up your mind. You never know...there could be that certain someone...or someones there for you

Re: Afraid to go to the Pet Store....
LOL, that sounds like me. "What if I leave, hahaha, and come back! Maybe the....(name your critter) will recognize! Or fall off their wheel closer to me than anyone else.....or seem to understand English more than the others in the cage.....I'll fake them out and come back!" Oh, how they addle our brains! The TWICE part was a dead giveaway

Re: Afraid to go to the Pet Store....
I like that suggestion flamestriker!
Skeever, (I was playing Skyrim earlier my adopted child has a pet skeever, made me chuckle - sorry. Random thing there)
Anyways.. Rather than limiting yourself to going to one store or the other I think I would investigate both. Take stock of what each has to offer you, hold a few, interact with them. But don't make any decisions until you've visited both stores. And then you may just make up your mind

Re: Afraid to go to the Pet Store....
When my SO and I saw that little grey hybrid in the store, we wanted to take him home so badly. I found out the person who had adopted him brought him back too, so after Cora and Nony passed, we could have brought him in, but I didn't.
I had a hard time learning to not impulsively buy, but considering the two hams I bought on impulse both passed... :/ I think it's the universe trying to teach me something.

Re: Afraid to go to the Pet Store....
Spyro, my adopted kid in Skyrim could have a pet skeever, but I would not allow a mudcrab.....not in my house! He got a dog too.....
Both stores is the best idea...so I can't say I didn't really look. But generally that still means I will probably see a Syrian, and a gerbil, or hybrid hams and mice...I'm trying to steel myself for having to decide between a mouse or two, and a gerbil or two....unless a heart ham is awaiting.
Hekomi....I'm pondering deeply, lol.....so I can say its not an impulse buy. This is me going with the very possible option of adding a rodent to the household. Or not, of course, depending.
I'm finding it odd as Ziggy enters whatever age phase he is in, that I'm going to the cage to watch out for him and take him out, and he's like, 'can't you see I'm busy moving the litter around and shifting my hoards to my different hiding places....!!!' Which is fine, but I think I'm overdoing it with the attention on him. He's got the best "What is it now?!" look I've ever seen, lol........He's clearly settled into an "I can come out, or not....depending on my mood" Which gets me thinking something is wrong. But there isn't.
The kids grow up and suddenly you have all this time on your hands.

Sounds good Skeever, just don't pull a Komi! Best of luck, I'd say both stores too. It took us forever before we found Java

Re: Afraid to go to the Pet Store....
Hahaha, fair enough!
Funnily, it turns out I gave my mum's number to one of the stores I hooked up with in the city, and asked if they'd call me if they got any "neat colours" (aka non cream-based). They called my mum and my mum apparently was screaming "NO MORE HAMSTERS". Guess she's in for a nasty surprise in the fall...? Good thing I don't live with her, come September!

Re: Afraid to go to the Pet Store....
For her or me?
She keeps asking me how many I have. "Four." "Okay. Keep it that way..."
Hmm... or not?
I think she'll be less fussy when I'm out of the house. I live with her for the summer for my internship, but usually in the year I'm with her for a few nights per week, but not this year
