hahaha, my last addition was Hercules the Roborovski. I got him about 4 days ago. Given my current track record I give myself.... 5-10days til I'm hankering after another one... they're all just so cute and I love taming them and getting to know them.
I love all my hams now I've gotten to know them and they all get tons of attention, but new hams are just so hard to resist.

this time however, I will only settle for a sable Syrian... and I've noticed a certain rarity for them in my area

A shame about the sable colour.

I have always wanted a long haired tort and white and I have only ever seen a short haired one, so I do not know if any actually exist!

Uh, we seem to have hijacked this thread. oops

Our mice vary from sociable through to preferring their own company - even the two unneutered brothers have completely different personalities. Peanut likes people and enjoys climbing on them, Nuthatch isn't as sure of us and while he's handleable and curious he's generally happier without humans interfering too much

I know you, Kyrillion, you're the Mouse Lady!

I'm thinking mice are small and fast but not as 'hyper' as gerbils, but I could be very wrong. Personality will play a big role. I do have images in mind of gerbils LEAPING out of my hand and bouncing around the room...

Are mouse, in their own hyper way, less skittish? or more so? The fact they will often stay on a table or the like is good....no fall down go boom the second I turn my back....

I'm also thinking about that the option of getting a pair of mice, female, or same litter male, is much higher than what I have seen in gerbils. I saw one gerbil. They may have hundreds this week, but I saw one.....not a choice then, since they are as social as mice. It's better to forever home a single gerbil of course than a pet store life....

As far as cleaning and care, gerbils seem to have the lead.

I tend to lean towards mice, but I want to give gerbils a fair shake as pets too....which is why I posted. Of course, if there is a hammy with my name on it, I'll know It's really one of those half dozen of one, six of the other in my mind...sigh

The fateful trip to a pet store is probably Friday... <cue Jaws theme>

Although, with the right info it does play a factor into which pet shop I go....

One doesn't have mice, the other doesn't have gerbils. One has Syrians, the other, white hybrids....

If you told me a year ago, things like this would keep me awake at night, I'd have said you were crazy.......lol

lol thanks

Our mice vary... All can be handled and won't leap off hands or anything (although Nugget would when we got her - but she was terrified of us), how easy they are to pick up in the first place varies from mouse to mouse (it depends on their confidence). Once they're tame they all seem to be fairly easily handled or ours do anyway
