Lightbulb Question about Hamsters and lighting!

I've just got my first hamster and I have a question about hamsters and electric lights.
The cage is in my bedroom and I can come home late some nights (11:30pm ish) which means I would be turning my light on while he's up and about. Does this effect them badly in any way or should I try not to turn my light on at night when it's been dark for a few hours?

Hello emfrancesca, and welcome to Hamster Central. Do not worry about the lights. The hammies are usually buried under the substrate or hidden away in their houses. The lights shouldn't be a problem. None of my furries has a problem with it when I turn on lights. And if they do come out to see what's going on, I grab the opportunity to snuggle whoever has come out to see me. No need to go around in the dark.
