Default Lots of questions Sorry

Ive had my syrian hammie Marge for nearly a month now she is about 12 weeks old i think she was tiny when i got her. Any way she is rapidly out growing her cage and her wheel is too small for her i think she is going to be a big hammy . I have been looking at larger cages for her and cant choose between the Jack 72 and The Savic cambridge. The jack 72 is a bit bigger but will she be able to fit in the tunnels when she is fully grown. I need to get her a new wheel what size should i get her preferably a quiet one as she will be in my room once she gets a bigger cage. Or can anyone recommend another cage which would be suitable. With website links please. I am willing to pay up to £45. Also Marge is very active so it needs to have plenty of things for her to do as she runs about like a loony at night

I personally would go for the biggest cage you can afford. The Jack 72 looks like a great cage, and if she outgrows the tunnels you could always make or buy her some ladders instead. For a wheel I would recommend either the Savic Jumbo Roly or a Wodent Wheel. Both are more than large enough for a full grown Syrian. Jumbo Rolys are normally available at Pets at Home and I know of some websites that sell Wodent Wheels, but I can't think of any at the moment, sorry. As for other cages, why not have a look in the Cage Reviews section? This is very helpful and gives people's opinions on many popular cages.

Yeah, what pophammy said, the biggest you can afford. My hamster Kimmi started off with a rotastak cosmo pod, then totally out grew it so I got her a Savic Cambridge. Pricey beucase it was brand new to P@H but Kimmi had it all her life and loved avery moment of it

But the frustrating problem was the shelves. They were a pain to put back on after cleaning, so I cleaned them without taking them out which was much easier. I still have the Savic Cambridge, but im getting dwarfs and the cage isnt that suitable for them so I have ordered a ZZ1 (my advice is that the ZZ's are great easy access and soo much space. Im getting the ZZ1 because noway do I have enough space for a ZZ2! its huge)

I might sell my cambridge on ebay, its still in very good condition because Kimmi wasnt an excessive bar chewer

If you want a wheel which is silent and stays silent, get a silent spinner! I have a red medium size. They sell them in all pet shops, here's the link

The size which you should be looking for is the purple 1

The silent spinner will likely be too small for her once she's grown. It's only 6.5", and fully grown syrians really need an 8" wheel. As for the cage, I'd go for the Jack over the Cambridge.

I have just bought a jack 72 for one of my dwarfs and am waiting on it arriving (hopefully tomorrow!) I would go for the jack over the Cambridge as it is bigger. If you like ill see if my fully grown syrian boy can fit through the tubes - though im sure the tubes will be fine - its surprising how agile hamsters are!

Thanks that would be a great help let me no of any pros and cons of this cage as well. Definately going to get one if your syrian boy will fit in the tubes.

The cage came this morning and I tried monty my syrian with the tubes which he fits through fine (ill get some pics when he wakes up properly later on)

Im very pleased with the size of the cage and it is perfect for my dwarf but i personally prefer to keep my syrians in larger cages

PROS

Folds flat
Nice set of accessories
A good size
3 doors to allow acsess into the cage
Bright and cheery colours!
The cage once together is sturdy with a good strong plastic base

CONS

The clips are brittle - i bought my cage from zoo plus' return shop on ebay and some of the shelf and cage clips were snapped - i ensured no further snapping by steeping them all in hot water before using them

The tubes were soo hard to get together! I also steeped the connectors as they were difficult - though this might of just been my cage that had the problem but if your using this for a Syrian i can bet they will just climb up to the shelves as there isn't much of a jump up so there isn't much need for the tubes.

Another possible con is that the doors might be pushed open by the hamster - i would use a paper clip or cage clips (or even rotastak clips) over the doors for piece of mind
