Re: Let's see your cages (from January 2013)
Oh my gosh Biscotti those habitats are amazing! I'm actually jealous of your hams xD Like Strawberrysmom I'd also love to seed videos of their antics in there xD
I utterly love cages like these with natural elements to them. I wish I had the space to have a home like this for Timi, but alas. Maybe one day I will have the living conditions and the DIY knowledge to do this!
Here's Timi's newly cleaned and freshly accessorised Alaska cage!
(I apologise for the size ;-; )
After 5 weeks of the same carefresh and whatnot, Timi had started relocating his sleeping spot so I figured he'd made a royal mess out of his nest and it was time for a cage clean. So out came my 60Ls of Carefresh and hand-sewn toys and viola! I popped in his new hammock and Roly Poly hanging bed, (You can see images of those here and here )
I'm very pleased and happy with his new layout. He's got more places to hide from me though! XD

Strawberrysmom & Penn: Thank you both! I did tried to capture video with my camera but they came out super dark so it's a lot of dark blob on blob action. There was a lot of landscaping action going on last night though, I keep hearing the *swish swish swish* of tunnels being dug.

I've seen people keep syrians in the detolf but you may find it challenging to fit syrian sized furniture and wheels. The tank is only roughly 15"-16"ish tall, so you will need to make tank toppers to extend the height in order to accommodate substrate + wheel.

The "rescue hams" bins all syrians in these, there are more bins not shown here also.

These cages are all SO fantastic!!!
Ok...so mine is not nearly as good as Biscotti's however, I did spend the weekend working on both of my hams abodes.

Thanks strawberrysmom! I can't claim the wooden tunnel idea. I actually borrowed the idea from someone's Detolf picture here on HC, but it's a great idea. I'm a little worried she"ll try to climb it, but we'll see.

Thank fully Sheldons cage has a bottle holder and Fudge prefers a bowl for her water but I use the tunnel as a water bottle holder for my mice and it works well. Those plastic playcubes work well too

That's probably me. Sprite and Pixel's detolf uses the medium log as the bottle holder. You can stuff something heavy, like rocks or a wad of modeling clay into the log, or wedge something to the sides. This will help hold the log steady in case Smudge try to climb it.
As I said in the other thread, the Billy hack looks beautiful and Smudge is a very lucky ham.

Yes, Biscotti it was you . I'm sorry...my memory is shot! I thought it was you & I went back to look at previous pics, but I couldn't find them...I would've otherwise completely given you a shout-out for the genius idea! My Smudge & I thank you!
