Default New Hamster Cage

Hi,

I have just got my hamster a brand new cage which is bigger than her old one and she seems to be happy it in. However it does not look like she is eating, does anyone know whether this is this normal when hamsters more to new cages?

Thanks

Default Re: New Hamster Cage

Hi,

My three hamsters have all had cage moves several times in their lives as I've improved their habitats, none have stopped eating when moved though. Perhaps try her with something she might find more tempting to eat, a yoghurt drop or similar. Also I regularly weigh my hamsters anyway so I can spot any weight loss that might be happening, as very often I don't see mine eat (as they eat in bed) so it's hard to keep track of whether they are eating or not. The best sign of not eating is of course weight loss. It might be also worthwhile checking your hamster's teeth are ok in case it's something unrelated to the cage move and check whether your ham is drinking ok by marking the water bottle and ensuring the level goes down. Hope this helps x

She looks fairly healthy and she takes yogurt drops but leaves her hamster muesli. Currently she keeps pushing her water bottle out no matter where I put it on her cage. I have moved it into the corner and she seems to leave it alone and the water is going down so I am guessing she is drinking but I never she her.
