Default Ideal room temperature?

We have all of the babies in our lounge with us. ('The Babies' includes Bob )

It is quite a warm room, and I was wondering what temperature hammies find ideal? Should I turn the heating down and get some thermals on? Its not hot in here, but its not as cool as friends houses either.

Hamster Widow won't mind that though, he reckons he has got heat rash .

I think the ideal temperature is 21-23 degrees....so you might need T-shirts rather than thermals.

I keep mine a little cooler than that.
The thermostat on the heaters in my hamstery is set to kick in if the temperature drops below 16°C. Keeping them cool enough in the summer is a different matter!!

All of my hamsters live in a shed outside which has no heating at anytime throughout the year.

As they are in there all year they adapt very well to the temperatures gradually dropping as winter approaches, and by the time the temperatures are at their coldest the hamsters are completely acclimatised - none of them hibernate either which is a good thing, although they do spend more time in bed and are less active (i'm sure i have read that there is a word for that - a kind of hibernation??)

They all get extra bedding and extra shavings and they all make themselves gigantic nests

In the summer, if it gets very hot, i put fans in there to cool them down. All of my hamsters, especially the Roborovskis, seem to be able to tolerate the cold much better then they can tolerate the heat - i suppose its a good thing we dont get much of a summer

I don't really think the temperature matters as long as the hamsters have plenty of time to adjust to whatever temperature they are in.

I think hamsters would get quite ill if they were moved about into different temperatures without having time to adjust.

If we're talking Syrians, we have to remember that they live *below* ground throughout the day time when it's very hot above ground, then come out at night when it's much cooler.

But they are extremely active at night and will generate a lot of body heat searching for food.

I should think that high temperatures are the problem for Syrians so a cool - but not cold - environment would be the best for them.
