it will definitely benefit your breeding if you don't have to keep the litter each time .
its no problem i always planned to keep the whole litter if needs be. i did find an outlet but got into a big row over them wanting my hamsters at four weeks i wouldnt let them go until 5 weeks

rember im not having more chinese until next april and ive got syrians first so im going to do some negoitoins in august when i have time

i'm looking forward to seeing the chinese at Bath actually, because there is usually only a few at northern shows. In fact, i'm looking forward to seeing what kind of hams are at Bath altogether, as there will be a lot of showers there that i've never clapped eyes on before!

if the entry is as big as Andover, Chinese will be one of the biggest classes, the were 20 normals and 13 dom spots

Yes, there were tons of Chinese at Andover!!!

Just out of interest, I'm curious as to what the benefit is to entering lots and lots of hamsters in the same class??? I can understand if its their first show and you want feedback on them, but if it's not, wouldn't it be better just to enter your "top ones"? I hope that doesn't sound cheeky - I'm new to showing - Andover was my first show - so I'm fascinated by the the motivation behind people's entries and I'm just trying to learn.

Generally I will not enter more than 2 in a class, occasionally I might enter 3 if I am not sure of the judges preferences.
I think sometimes people will enter several from a litter to get feedback on which they should keep, but these days I tend to trust my own judgement on that!
I do try, if I have suitable showable hamsters, to enter as many different classes as I can.

i do enter quite a lot of hamsters even if they have been shown before. i have found with chinese though different judges have very different opinions, so i enter about 6 in normal and 3 in dom spot(i only have 3 dom spots -_-) some judges seem to prefer my bigger bulkier hamsters, and others prefer the smaller better coloured ones, i do try to breed one that is a perfect combination of both, but it is rather difficult so i just enter the lot ^^. casanova is the only normal that i have bred that is a really good example of a chinese hamsters, i don't feel that any of the others are quite as good, but i am always looking to improve my stock.

Well the only time i've been in the position of having more than one hamster in a class, i just entered the one that had a chance. Max has never scored as high as Paddy, so there's just no point in entering him. No judge would prefer him to Paddy, so i just don't bother.

Other than WW normals, of which my largest ever entry has been 3, i've only ever had one ham for a class. Oscar is LH AOC, Ruby is LH satin and Harvey LH creams. I only bother entering Ruby nowadays. Both Oscar and Harvey hate being shown and they're not gonna win, so there's no point! I don't put a ham through a show that they have no chance of being placed in. No syrian of mine has ever looked like they didn't mind being shown. Ruby i don't know about cos she was in heat and was frozen for most of it, as Oscar was next to her!

My opinion is: If I have the show pens and the hamsters don't mind being shown, then why not?

As someone who only has a few hamsters, and enough show pens for all of the ones that can be shown, I don't see the point in leaving them at home, especially as I am thrilled to get any kind of place (it is also extra money for the club)! I'm so glad I didn't leave Gizmo at home for Andover as he got a good result for him 2nd out of 4

I do think it is very different for people like BVH though, who has lots of hamsters and can tell easily which ones should do well, and also knows what each judge prefers.

I'm entering 3 in LH cream at Todmorden - basically as I'd love to get a judges opinion on the two young Dubeanies, and also to show them off to people!
