Default Wet Tail Question

I'm about to take on an abandoned hamster that my grandad found wandering around outside. When found he was soaking wet, very skinny and shaky. He is now active and alert in a cage, but I am concerned that the stress of his ordeal may bring on a bout of wet tail. If this does happen, can it spread to my other hamster, Pickles? They are both syrian so obviously will be in seperate cages and will not come into contact with each other, but in the same room? Can anyone give me any advice?

I am definately not an expert so I hope I've got this right but from what I understand it is not airborne but can be spread easily from hamster to hamster unless you are very careful with hygiene. They should not share toys, excercise balls etc and you should always make sure that your hands are washed after holding each hamster and your clothing may need to be changed if you hold the hamster.

If they are both adults they will not get wet tail from stress.
You should keep the adventuring hamster strictly in quarantine for at least 4 weeks. He needs to be in a different room with his own food etc and you must be careful not to handle one after the other as illnesses can be spread through touching your skin and clothes etc.
I'm sure he will be fine and once he is back on a good diet will soon gain weight and condition.
