New Hamster
I bought a new hamster 2 days ago. Shes really small they said 6-8 weeks. She seems to be about 6-7 weeks old. She just woke up and she only opened one eye. After a few minutes she ended up opening her other eye. Is this normal or should I worry that it took her a while to open her eye?
Also, I went to give her a milk drop and she snatched it off me, she got it pretty fast, I am surprised she never bit me while she was at it. Is it normal for her to snatch it at a young age. My last hamster didnt snatch her treats.
Thanks
EDIT: Also she has pulled her bed against the side of the cage and her bedding is all dirty yellow and smelly! Is it normal for young ones to just pee and poop in their bed?

Re: New Hamster
The eye isn't anything to worry about, sometimes they do do that.
I wouldn't worry about the snatched treat either.
And yeah, some hamsters use their beds as toilets lol. Our russians do occasionally and Scamp will too if she can't find a suitable toilet near enough.

Lmao, I took the roof off the cage to play with her a little, try and tame her and my god, the smell its just shocking. I am going to change the bedding in a minute after I have had some food and clean the whole cage on Saturday.

Re: New Hamster
If she's that young, the smell of the milk drop would remind her of mum's milk, I'd imagine

Re: New Hamster
Even the most ell behaved hamsters snatch their favourite treats lol
Um how smelly is the bedding? Can you see if her bottom is dirty at all? Is she passing solid poo? If it's really smelly, her bottom is dirty and you cannot see any poos, you will need to get her to the vets as it could be wet tail.
If there is no dirty bum, she is probably confused as to where to wee. Give her fresh bedding, but put some of the soiled bedding in the place you want her to use. She will get the message. that that's where she is supposed to go.

Re: New Hamster
I just put her in the ball to check her bum but I cant tell if its dirty because her back and underneath is black. The bedding was a yellow, it stunk but it was yellow.

Did it smell like wee, or like poo? I think wet tail often smells like manure!! Can you see any diarrhoea in the bedding?? Wet tail can happen with new, young hamsters because of the change in environment, and she must be seen by a vet.

Re: New Hamster
It smells like strong wee, but the person that sold me it at P@H did say that she could act like this due to a new environment and being so young.

Re: New Hamster
Hamster wee looks like milky tea. Can you smell her bum, does that smell yucky?
