Default Joining Cages

Has anyone joined two cages together via Hamster exercise tubes? I was thinking of doing this to give Forrest more room to exercise/explore/hoard food etc.
Your thoughts please

If the cages were of the same make to use the same types of tubes it could work, but I much prefer giving my hamsters a wide floor space in one cage rather than multiple smaller cages connected

LOL. I have been looking at tons of posts and trying to catch up since I was off for a while. I came across this post and this little furry. Evil...NOT! What a cute little ham.As for using tubes to connect cages...yes, you can do that. I use tanks, tank toppers and cages with my hammy setups, and I connect them with tubes. However, I don't use the habittrail tubes, I use the TOOBS by Penn Plax since they are wider. Syrians can grow pretty big and the bigger tubes are safer and easier for them to move in. You can get them at this link:

Below are photos of my Ted E. Bear's setup. They are, left side..right side..full view.. and then another full view but with a bigger habittrail cage in the center. Hope this helps.

Yes I have! I joined two Zoozone2s together with ferplast tubes, by cutting circular holes in the blue bases. Because the ferplast tubes can be sealed off with end caps, the two cages can be used together or separate, and in fact they are currently being used separately.

It is a little tricky to cut the plastic (still got the scar) and it must be the precise size - so that the tube can fit through but not the connection ring - but I am pleased I did it because I have more flexibility in housing options for my furries - and if I wanted I could connect them to any ferplast cage if I wanted to (as I have some spares).

I have in the past also modified the ferplast rat cage, to make it suitable for hamsters. To do this I cut the bars and attached tubes externally to connect the different levels. There are five ferplast connection points so again I can connect it to other cages/levels in many different ways. This is not in use currently but I am thinking Melvin might enjoy it. It would need some DIY again (as the shelves needed replacing) before it could be a suitable home.

I've included some photos so you can see what I mean!

What are you thinking of modifying? Hamster DIY is so exciting

Thanks DrK! This is what it looked like before I thought to add the tubes on the outside, (a little more in it when Titan used it) but it wasn't quite as practical!

That's a great use of space. Hammy has lots of room and the footprint isn't as big. Ted E would love it.

What about using Fop connectors insead of cutting the base? The downside is that they fit ober cage doors so you would need two doors on a level for access
