Watching hamsters make their nests
Does anyone else do this? It entertains me to no end watching McSteamy shovel substrate near his house entrance and then go and find the biggest pieces of bedding possible and take them back to his house... I have no idea why it keeps me so entertained, but it does!

I love it too - especially if I spend a while ripping up toilet tissue and put it in a beg, only for them to move it across the other side of the cage!

Re: Watching hamsters make their nests
I've always loved watching them build their nests. Gerbils too! Some can be pretty big. I also get a kick out of watching Almond, my dwarf hammy block the door to his nest so I can't see him. He must be nice and cozy in there.

Re: Watching hamsters make their nests
I just love seeing them pick out that very specific bit... The one next to it clearly wasn't good enough yet I haven't got a clue what the difference was lol

Re: Watching hamsters make their nests
I love watching Ruby pick up that 1 piece of Fitch and carrying it back to her house. Watching my gerbils build their nest is great. I could spend hours by their tank. Who needs TV lol.

Mine does this too! It's like we're not allowed to see what they're doing in there

Re: Watching hamsters make their nests
I love watching Screech collect tissue pieces and see the route she takes to her home. She stores tissue in one place then moves it to her nest as and when she needs it. But seeing her run with tissue sticking out of her mouth and she cant see where she is going properly is sometimes amusing.
I watched one of my old hamsters doing it one day and I saw the route he was taking. I thought I would help by moving an object to make the route shorter for him. He must have wondered what was happening because all of a sudden, his route was blocked. He went all over the place looking for a way to his home. I had to put the object back so he could carry on.
