Evening Folks,
A busy week is finally over, I spoke to Ghost about his joint winning pic for HOM and typical Ghost there was no reaction as he sat in his treats bowl munching on some toad in the hole crispy batter and eying the cabbage suspiciously, after which he went back to running in his wheel I am sure he is obsessed with the wheel, I have wondered what he would do if he got up and there was no wheel in his cage......
Maybe it is worth the experiment, for observational purposes only, then he would get his wheel back.....

Do you still feel like running on the wheel after floor time?
My neighbour told me about a hamster she knew who lived a very long time.
This hamsters owner constructed a network of tubes big enough to run in that went all across her sitting room and the exercise kept the hamster young.

I'm sure he was pleased on the inside Rads, but he's probably at that age now where he feels it isn't "cool" to look happy or show interest

Marti,
Ghost isn't quite that bad but once he is up and scouted out his cage for nibbles etc he is into the wheel and then he is off...
I did a conservative calc as an estimate of how far he goes in the wheel and came up with 4-6kms that was when he was first with us now he does stop and I estimate 2-4 kms now...!
Would love to see pics of Prince Lemon has he a thread? Not seen him on insta yet either.

I would like to calculate how far both Marti and Lemon go, how did you do it?)
As you already saw, Prince Lemon now has a thread, and I’ll make sure to update insta soon. I want to have more photos ready before we’re back there to keep the updates regular)

Calculations go roughly like this,
Calculate the circumference of the wheel, (2pi x R)(pi=3.141)=X
Time the revolutions of the wheel in a minute suggest do this three times to get a mean average. as an example say 25rpm.
Multiply wheel circumference by rpms and multiply this figure by 60 to give a distance run over 1 hour
For Ghosts 28cm dia wheel this is,
.879m circumference at 25rpm= 21.75 Meters per min
This equates to 1.3km per hour.
So for 4 hours of use at an average of 25rpm this is 5.22kms
Sorry I can't type formulas but hope this helps
