Got a decent pic at last.

I've managed to get a decent pic of Koda, my syrian. I read the wiki articles and think they're brilliant. From reading the one on colour, I think he's a sable banded. The only thing I'm still confused about is the fact that Koda doesn't have the crescents or cheeks flashes of the agouti, but his colour doesn't go underneath like the self. His underneath is completely white. I suppose he's a mongrel lol. Are there such things as 'pedigree' hamsters?

Sable is umbrous cream - so each hair should be brown at the tip and cream at the bottom, the younger the hammy the paler the cream colour. With all selfs white patches on the belly happen, especially in a banded so he's not really a mongrel!

There are pedigree hamsters in the sense that they come with a pedigree detailing their ancestory, but they're not more expensive than pet shop hamsters or anything

He is adorable and you are quite right about the colour. He is indeed a sable banded. Sables are not 'Agouti hamsters' as they do not have the lighter tummies and the cheek flashes etc as you said. All bands have the white going round the tummy like that giving the appearance of agouti but it is actually just the band. If he did not have the band he would be the same sable colour all over with maybe a white big and splotch on his tum. You can see he has the cute cream eye rings. As sables get older they often become more chestnutty brown.

His tummy is white all over, the sable doesn't go 'underneath' at all. Internet_nobody is right too, his hair is sable at the tips and pale further down. I managed to take a look while stroking him yesterday. Whatever it's called, he's gorgeous to me lol.
