Re: Hubble's thread
Maybe! Can you try him with tofu instead? I'm pretty sure they can actually eat tofu.
That mug is too large to reasonably be used for coffee or tea, I think it was made for hamster cages!

Re: Hubble's thread
Taming update! When Hubble woke up this evening, I tried hand feeding him a treat, and he took it right away, so I thought it was time to try out a bathtub taming session. Once he climbed into his ball, I let him have a roll around for a few minutes before carrying him into the bathroom.
I think it went okay. I put a few toys and a hide in there, and he spent most of the time sniffing around. He climbed on my foot for a second and took a couple of sunflower seeds from me until he'd decided he'd had enough. That was only about five minutes in. He went as far away from the bath from me as he could get and just sat there. So, I thought that would enough for now and held the ball out to him so he could climb back in.
Back in his cage, I gave him a treat, a new toy, and a Whimzees chew (thanks for the idea, Cypher!) because he's spoiled absolutely rotten. It's slow going, but it's progress. I'll try again tomorrow.

Re: Hubble's thread
Slow and steady is the best way to do it. Well done Hubble, he deserves all the Whimzees!

Re: Hubble's thread
Lovely photo of Hubble there! Did you manage to get any more substrate in for the base? Just thinking it is quite a drop from the roof of the cage if he climbed up there and fell. That would make the bendy stick bridge higher up too as that would be quite a hard thing to fall on from a height, and would make access to the wheel easier too
It's surprising how much the substrate flattens down after you put it in. I sometimes fill mine to the brim and then it only looks 2/3 full a few days later and I'd end up putting some more in.

Re: Hubble's thread
Lovely photo & it sounds as though taming is going really well, it's still early days but he's definitely making progress
I find the same thing with the substrate, I think I've put as much in as I can then a couple of days later it looks quite empty!

Re: Hubble's thread
I haven't added in the substrate yet. Not quite sure how to manage it without disturbing things too much. I definitely need to get it in there, just not sure how to do so while keeping his stress to a minimum.

Re: Hubble's thread
If you see a bit of space maybe just throw in a handful or two at a time, if he wants to he'll probably rearrange it himself then & shouldn't get too stressed by it.

Re: Hubble's thread
Operation Add Substrate is a go. Just added three big handfuls, which accidentally woke him up. He came out of his nest, had a sniff around, and then went straight back to bed.
