Without exggerating I have had around 100 almost amazing photos that would have been out of this world on the cuteness chart, but he moves at the last milisecond and they end up very blurry! I'm determined to get one of his 'smiling' face soon though!

I hear you re: the amazing photos that "got away" cuz the hammy moved in a millisecond.
Think I need a camera with a faster shutter speed for sure.

I had advice that he is an umbrous golden banded could somebody confirm this for me?

I would say he is an umbrous Golden banded and a very handsome one at that. The key is to look under his cheek flashes (the dark stripes up the side of his cheeks) at the crescents underneath. In a normal golden these would be much lighter. Darwins are quite greyish showing the umbrous.
The umbrous ticking does not show as much on the areas where the hair is short like his face or areas that get rubbed like maybe his sides on the wheel so the chestnutty golden fur shows there.
