I hear you re: the amazing photos that "got away" cuz the hammy moved in a millisecond.
Think I need a camera with a faster shutter speed for sure.

I had advice that he is an umbrous golden banded could somebody confirm this for me?

Aww he is just gorgeous
I would say he is an umbrous Golden banded and a very handsome one at that. The key is to look under his cheek flashes (the dark stripes up the side of his cheeks) at the crescents underneath. In a normal golden these would be much lighter. Darwins are quite greyish showing the umbrous.
The umbrous ticking does not show as much on the areas where the hair is short like his face or areas that get rubbed like maybe his sides on the wheel so the chestnutty golden fur shows there.
