As some of you know, Lucinda has recently needed to rehome a hamster after its 11 year old owner couldn't cope because she was a biter. I'm pleased to say we've had the pleasure of taking the lovely little girl in
We and Lucinda agreed that she needed a new name (the child had called her Candy but it doesn't suit her at all) and we ended up choosing Fwirl, she's a satin coated cinnamon banded female syrian and about 2.5-3 months old at the moment.
Officially she's a foster hamster but we don't want offers of a home for her. She gets the same treatment as the other Mischief Hams and we don't want offers of a home for them so we don't want offers of a home for Fwirl either. If she gets a new home we'll approach the person ourselves if they've told the forum they want a syrian and we choose to approach them.
She came home with us yesterday and settled into her ZZ2 quite nicely. She's absolutely loving the space and spent a good few hours exploring every single inch of it - including the roof and under the substrate lol
This was her in the mini duna we used as a travel cage
And this was taken with flash so the colouring is more accurate than in most other photos but her eyes are a bit brighter than they really are
Here she is in her cage
Now for a video of her exploring the cage
Having a nice munch
Debating some monkey barring
This morning we saw she was wide awake so got her out for a while. She had some ball time and kindly walked herself to the bathroom in her ball so we could do some handling work with the bathtub and a box.
Exploring
Having a close-up
Showing off her box
And washing in her box
We think she's a fantastic little girl and we hope you like her as much as we do
Nice you got her at last, hope she either stays with you or gets a nice new home, and so glad she didnt end up in the pet shop!! ( shes like my Beau- jangles)
Yup, it was yesterday we could get close enough so its yesterday we got her
Just had her out for a second time today, she let us pick her up a few times and happily clambered on and off my hand when it happened to be in the way when she was getting out of a box.
We're letting her decide when she comes out though - we see she's awake and active so if we've got the time to let her out we take the lid off. If she wants to get out she can pull herself out if she stands on the top of her house.
No biting yet Shell
She's tasted but not bitten and when she nibbles we just find a way to distract her so that she doesn't then bite (apparently she sniffs, nibbles, bites).
We're trying to convince her people are ok without getting bitten. It may well fail but she seems to be happy with the current way we're doing things so we're going to stick with it. We hope to be getting her out twice a day for the moment if she's awake and we're in to do it, but we're making sure she's out once a day nomatter what. Twice is kind of intensive but shes enjoying it so it works
Gutterglitter - Yup, she was very excited. She's still enjoying it a lot and seems to like that she can just climb out if we take the lid off and she wants to come out. At the moment she's racing in her wheel, then running around a bit and playing with things before returning to her wheel.
