Cage Suggestions?
I'll be picking up my new friend (a 1.5 year old dwarf hamster) in just over a week. I've been setting up my cage in preparation and I've reached the point where I'm not sure exactly what to put and where.
The cage itself is a secondhand zoozone 2 in the size large, the visible crack has been repaired and the lid has been meshed.
Bedding is paper with lots of shredded tissues for extra nesting material. The majority of the bedding is 4-6" deep with an 8" deep section. Several toilet paper tubes have been added into the bedding as starter tunnels. I hand made the sisal tunnel and the two sisal hides. I also made another hide out of the actual bedding with a piece of cardboard beside the super deep section. Other bits of cardboard bits are placed through it as mini chews as well as the hanging one I made.
His wheel will be picked up tomorrow, it's a 7.5" wooden one from petzilla on amazon. I'm going to be using a water bowl and scatter feeding. I will be getting and making more chews and sisal hides/tunnels.

Re: Cage Suggestions?
Looks all good!!! Just so you know, some hamsters just don't get the hang of water bowls straight away, some never do. My robo Niko prefers to jump in it which isn't the best. I suggest having access to a water bottle as well. The wheel may need a waterproof layer on it if there isn't already as a lot of hamsters, especially dwarfs pee and poop on their wheel so just something to keep in mind.
We'll need to see pics of the little one when you get him. Does he have a name?

I will definitely pick up a water bottle then just to be safe! I actually asked the foster hes with at the moment about if he pees on his wheel- she said that during his stay with her he hasn't. If he does like to pee in it though I will definitely look into waterproofing it!
Currently his name is Chip but he looks more like a Moe to me.
