Paint that is hamster safe.
I bought a wooden platform for a cage i'm going to be setting up but I'd like to treat it before putting it in.
I've used plastikote in another cage and it worked great but it was really expensive for such tiny pots and only available online and I'd like to get it asap.
Anything else I can use? I've heard Cuprinol Garden Shades is but I've also heard people saying it isn't safe. Anyone use it? Or any other brands?
If I have to shell out for plastikote I will but would like to know if there's anything else before I do.
Thanks

Re: Paint that is hamster safe.
I have only used Plastikote myself - but I buy my Plastikote from The Range - you can buy it in store for £3.49 a pot.
I don't know whether you have a store nearby? Most of the colours can only be bought in store although a few can be bought online but postage is around £3.95.
Here is a link to their website - https://www.therange.co.uk/search?q=...t%20dry#page_1
Also when I recently went into my local B&M store they also had Plastikote - so if you have one nearby you could also have a look in there.

Unfortunately I'm not in the uk so those shops won't work for me.
They have it on Amazon for £4 but delivery really increases the price.
Might just have to bite the bullet and go for it if I can't find anywhere else.
Thanks anyway

If you don't mind me asking, what country do you live in?

Re: Paint that is hamster safe.
Okay.
I've have just had a quick look online and have noticed that The Range do have 3 stores in Ireland - I don't know if any are close enough to you or not. https://www.therange.co.uk/stores/
I am aware that a few member on here do use the Cuprinol garden shades to paint wooden items in their hamster cages - although I haven't used it myself. From what I've seen on the forum it does appear to be safe for hamsters,

I actually had no idea the range was in Ireland. I've wanted to go there for so long after hearing about/seeing everyone's hails from there.
Thank you so much you've actually made my night! And solved my paint issue haha.
Thanks for all the help. Really appreciate it

Re: Paint that is hamster safe.
Brilliant SKB! Glad you've found a stockist Sabre Rose. Personally I would only use plastikote - it doesn't smell of anything. But if you can't get it then there may be a suitable alternative. The other thing I've done sometimes - Instead of painting a shelf - put a hemp mat on it. It protects the shelf a bit and cushions a fall onto the shelf a bit. It probably isn't completely waterproof but it would help and can be changed.

Re: Paint that is hamster safe.
You could also do an all natural hamster safe wood seal, and luckily there are tons of different recipes available with a quick search on Google!
