Just popped back to see how you're doing with them - so happy to see how much progress you've made they've come on leaps and bounds! they make such wonderful pets don't they <3 and the more time youspend with them the more affectionate they will become

When i picked cloud up to get him down from somewhere he started squeakign so i just stopped and held my hands loosly round his middle until he stopped...i dont understand...if they were really scared surely they would bite me? Like zell was just sat there and i stroked him and he squaked!
he's not scared, he's just being a drama queen one of my foster boys was exactly like this when i first got him, squeaked every time he was touched but he soon learnt that it wouldn't stop me stroking him keep picking him up and ignore the squeaks, and he will soon realise that complaining about it ain't gonna work!

so how many dried mealworms should they be allowed..cos he ate lots!!! lol
awww such a cute video!! mealworms are very high in fat and protein, so for adult rats definitely should only be given as a rare treat. i would only give a couple once or twice a week maximum, or you will end up with very fat ratties! also too much protein is really not recommended for older rats (>1 year) as it puts a lot of strain on their kidneys. my boys looove bits of rice cake, tesco value cornflakes and pine nuts as treats

Hi Snaisby.

I have found myself almost treatign them like dogs..they act like them when you get in from work! Come rushing to the bars and seem all excited

I have been working with them 1-3 hours every night the past month..and it pays off.

Still long way to go but even tonight was better.

I went to tell them gizmo was missing so i needed them to give me some love and give me a break from their micheviousness...

cloud came out onto my lap and let me stroke him before going to explore. He let me stroke him lots more.
Zell was watchign whole time and came out, both managed to jump my baracade and got under the wardrobe..its amazing, i kewep thinking ive done it then they show me!!!

I got them out..zell is more open to handling. he jumped up and i went to pick him down,he gave me the squeak but clung to my chest and let me tickle his belly. Then the pair of them were just running around me and when they came close i caressed their tails and stroked them, even cloud seemed to soften up.

Then cloud started chewign my show so i made a squeak and he stopped!

But..he got up to a ledge and i went to lift him down..he squeaked..i waitied until he seemed calm and as i was walking away to pop him down he had a proper spaz out and bit me!!! I made a squeaky noise and he ran off and avoided me....

we made up but im a little aprehensive of him now.

But they were more interactive with me tonight ..im seeing a deffinate improvement..and im trying to do it with tone not treats..mebe thats not the best way but id prefer to win their trust without bribery...plus they are intellegent!
xxx

So last night i couldn't sleep cos of the heat and thinking about Gizmo so i went down to play with the ratties.

Cloud was his usual independent self so i left him be..zell came out though and seemed to stick close to me.

They both climbed up onto the cage and had a little scrap. Tut tut. But poor zell hasn't mastered getting down yet so i usually lift him down. I just started stroking him and unlike normally he didnt walk away! I noticed however he had crouched down low so thought i might be scaring him. I stopped but he followed my hand and crouched down again so i started!

I thought it might be submissive behaviour? But i wasn't forcing my hands on him. He kept walking up to me and pushing into my hand so do you think he enjoyed it?

I took this video about 8 minutes in..yes that long..really put a smile on face.

The cheesy music has a reason...i think i mentioned it before but they seem to calm down with phil collins and i had this on when i was stroking him lol

so the cheese is their own doing (and a bit of mine hehe)...get your puke buckets ready guys!!!

But yeh some enlightenment on whether he was either so petrified of me to not move or he was genuinely enjoying it would be good. x
