I've got a new project(of course I do; have you met me?)!
Ready for my new project?
So I'm going to breed Apple Snails. I currently breed creek snails, so this won't be completely new for me. I'm also going to get Malaysian Trumpet snails. But the main thing is the Apple Snails.
My starting stock is:
-2 Goldens
-5 Blues
-4 Blacks
-4 Ivorys
-possibly 1 Brown, or Wild Colour
I'm ordering the Blues, Ivorys, and Blacks tonight. I already have the goldens, and if I get a brown I'll just get him/her from the pet store.
I really, really, enjoy genetics. I like working with them, re-creating colours, and working with combos. Snails and fish are easy to experiment with because you can keep so many. I bred guppies for 3 years, and I loved it. This will allow me to do more in less time.
I would love to do a similar project with hamsters, but I can't have 20 40gallon tanks! And, if you all haven't noticed, my hamstery and mousery have been on hold for the past few months. They'll both be started back up in late May.
So anyway, thought I'd share my little project idea with you guys. Thoughts?

Thoughts? Thoughts? Are you kidding??? I am having all kinds of thoughts right now. Until HC, I'd never even heard of Apple Snails. But now I will get and education on them. I will want to follow them as they grow up and make baby Apple Snails. I can't wait to see them. as for the 20 40-gallon tanks for hammies...oh the visuals.

Haha! Yep, hopefully it won't be long before we have babies, I hear they breed like rabbits, lol.
They actually lay clutches of eggs above the water. Then you can remove them and put them in a different container or leave them there if you wish. Keep them humid, but not wet, and they hatch a few weeks later as fully-functioning baby apple snails.
And as for the 20 forty-gals full of hammies: if I'm ever rich! Wouldn't that be amazing?!?

I found a place that sells purples, but they're sold out. I shall be checking every day though!

If you're going all out with this breeding venture, then you'll have to get purple mystery/apple snails. You can find them on Ebay and Aquabid.
