Best of luck with your bunny venture Claire, I`m sure a house bunny will be a fun pet to have and a cheeky one too! I love guinea pigs, but I know they require large floor space, or at least, the largest cage on the market! I love their cuteness and warbles! x
I know some bunnies absolutely cannot be bonded and have to be on their own but that is VERY rare.
I personally think every bunny should have at least 1 friend, they may seem happy with the attention they are getting while they are on their own but a human will never be as good as another bunny.
Rabbits are awake at dawn and dusk when we are asleep so they are all alone with nobun to play with, nobun to groom them and I think that's really sad
I don't think a rabbit would ever choose to be alone.
I'm gonna step out of this thread now because it's just going to upset me.
Oh and I've included a picture of my loved up pair
Angel looks fat but she's just old and a little saggy now, she's 10 years old!
No human can take the place of a companion animal, I agree. Because when I looked into having guinea pigs, I saw that they too benefit from at least one companion and that is how I would have things, for their sakes.
Single rabbits and piggies sometimes find themselves alone for various reasons like fighting or being separated when bough from a pet shop. I don`t find keeping a single animal a bad thing at all because we also need to cater for that single animals needs `as they are`, so if they are already alone but bonding can take place, then it should always be given careful consideration. But the new owner should always seek good advice on this from a rescue, or from someone who has some experience of such things and takes the time to give that advice and perhaps help with the bonding.
Some independent rabbit rescues would probably be only too happy to do this. x

Please don't get upset with this! I really appreciate all the advice from experienced people like yourself Please also know that I would never ever look to house a rabbit alone unless there is a reason it couldn't be with other rabbits. As I won't be buying, I'll be adopting from a rescue, I'll be able to find out the reasons if a rabbit must be alone, or if it must be alone for the time being and introduced to another one later. If a pair steal my heart then I'll bring them home. I don't want what's best for me, only what's best for any animals that are in my care. If that involves having two little fluffy bunnies rather than one, then I am excited to bring two home with me I'd never want a little rabbit to be lonely and sad.
I really do appreciate your input and your pair are gorgeous all snuggled up under there
RH - piggies are gorgeous too! I almost had two guinea pigs a few years back as they were being given away buy a friend of a friend. They weren't that well cared for so I started to do some research and told a girl I worked with about it too. She loved guinea pigs and had kept them. She had a converted shed, all insulates with heating installed etc, and it turned out her last pair had died a year before and she was looking to adopt a new pair. I picked then up and took them to her home for her as I knew she'd be better than me to raise them as she had experience and the set up there. I have never seen a shed as big as hers in my life! It was as big as about 3 rooms of my house and they had an amazing set up! They're still both happy as Larry as spoiled piggies in there

That`s a lovely story Claire and sheds (well insulated sheds that is) can be great housing for guinea pigs, but I personally prefer them indoors! Having said that though, a grass lawn with a large run is beneficial too and although I have a large garden out the back, it has no grass lawn as we did away with the lawn a while back. Sometimes I wish I`d kept it if I`m honest.
So it`s a toss up between having a large C&C cage set up along a wall in the house, or having a decent shed/garage with secure outdoor space! I never did go with my heart though but I can see the benefit of having piggies and house bunnies. x
I didn't know males made for better pets? Is it just their natures? I'm not too fussed about male or female - I don't think I'll be able to control what little one I fall in love with! As long as I know their different needs
I do just think its in there nature. Does get quite moody coming up to breeding age and can be quite territorial.
I know what you mean, when its the one its the one. I had to have him even though he isnt up to show standard. He likes going in the pet class

I have three bunnies. They are spoiled rotten! I love rabbits, they're so much fun! I'd advise anyone to get a bunny( then take a billion pictures and post them on HC). They can definitely act like dogs sometimes. This one of my bunnies, my only girl, Latte!

Okay, so since I posted a pic of Latte and M, I must post one of Maci. It's not Macy, it's pronounced Ma-ki. Short for Macchiato! He's such a big boy! He's the baby, believe it or not, he was born in April.

Lisab - D'awww he sounds lovely! I love it when their wee personalities shine through. Half nature, half nurture. I suppose males and females will always act different in every species
Colby - your buns are beautiful! The pic of latte under her wee blanket, awwwwwww! And M in the harness is funny haha!! He looks like he's having a great time! Maci is a big boy haha! Lovely though Can I ask - How did M end up with his name? It's very unusual!
