That's her earring When you show chinchillas in Sanctioned shows you tab them so that if they get loose you can catch them, and if you sell them they'll have your identification. Most of mine have them, Maia did, but her got all funny and I took it out, now she had a hole in her ear

I was gonna ask the exact same question...So can they be considered a good tool if your animal ever gets lost? Like, is the number/letter combination on it completely unique? Is their a computerised registry?
I've never seen chinchilla babies before, they're real cute. Look so vulnerable and sweet.

I'm not sure it's computerised. It's not known by rescues really, just breeders. It has your ranch brand and their number. Their number is the letter of the year (This year is B, last year was A, next year is C and so on) and what baby they were. the first baby born in the year is B1, then B2, then B3... So yes it is unique.
