Anyone with hayfever tips?
Pophammy is wracked with misery at the moment with the most awful hayfever. She cannot breathe, her eyes itch, she feels awful and thats even with taking Piriton plus nasal spray and keeping indoors. Please has anyone found anything that helps

Re: Anyone with hayfever tips?
I can't help, but I hope she's feeling better soon.
My sister is suffering with it really badly at the moment, and she can't take anything that she's found beacuse she's pregnant.

Re: Anyone with hayfever tips?
Hi Souffle,
i have had the worst hayfever in the last few days!! I usually get it really bad anyway, but just lately it has been even worse!! Sore Throat, Watery and itchy eyes, runny nose, non - stop sneezing!!
I went to Boots today and explained to the pharmacist what i have been taking every few hours for the last few weeks:
2 'one a day' Piriton tablets
2 clariton tablets
and
2 Nuerofen tablets (for the sore thoat)
i have had to take all of the above every few hours just to keep the symptoms at a manageble stage!!
The pharmacist said it was quite dangerous and i could oversdose on them - and she also said that the problem is probably because my body has got used to the type of tablets i am taking - so she gave me:
'Boots Hayfever and Allergy Relief - Cetirizine Hydrochloride - one a day'
i took one while i was shopping at 10:30 this morning and i havent had any symptoms all day! probably because it is a change of tablets, it is recommended to change the tablets you are using every few weeks.
Hope she feels better soon x
Tammy x

Re: Anyone with hayfever tips?
Get local honey (from as close as possible to your house). I always thought this was a bit of an old wives' tale but it has really helped Ed. He has some every morning on toast and he thinks it has made a massive difference.
Ed takes Loratadine (sp?) and he didn't react well to Cetirizine so I guess maybe it's trial and error?
Hope it clears up soon Pophammy

Re: Anyone with hayfever tips?
wow tammy you certainly know your drugs!
i have to take 2 tablets a day 1 of each kind, and i can have pireton as a booster, i also have eye drops for ichy eyes!!!!!
i find when my eyes itch, really cold water on some kitchen towel, put on the eye really eases the itching and irritation I HATE HAYFEVER!!!!!
a last resort which i like the sound of is an injection which can clear it up for a few years. my dad used to have them when he was a kid, now he just copes Rofl

Re: Anyone with hayfever tips?
Strangely, mine has only been really bad for the past week. For about 5years mine has come on in April, so i got it a bit later this year, bonus!!!
My mum always gave me Clarityn when i was younger but then i switched on to Piriton. Now i use Asda's own which is ALOT cheaper and is the exact same as the rest, i use the 'Hayfever & Allergy Relief - LORATADINE - ONE A DAY - NON DROWSY' ones and they kick in after about 20 minutes....and a box of tissues later
For the eyes, when i'm home, i normally put some slices of cucumber and a cotton pad soaked with cold water on my eyes and have a little lie down to realx. It does take a lot out of you so why not chill out
It really is a nuisance this hayfever malarky, i just hope i grow out of it one day!!
Hope you feel better Pophammy

Re: Anyone with hayfever tips?
Mine has been bad lately too, this time I seem to have a chesty cough with it which I didn't even think was a symptom of hayfever - but I have been told that it is!
I have prescribed "one a day" tablets and eye drops from the doctors.
I have also found that anything cold and/or wet rested on the eyes really helps with the soreness and reduces how much it itches. Someone who used to get very severe hayfever swears by cold teabags on the eyes, it really reduces the swelling apparently.
I hope pophammy feels better soon.
