Default how do you advance your career?

for anyone who has managed to 'work their way up' in their career

how do you convince a potential employer that you are capable of more and that they should take you on? i want to move up a step and earn more money but i am worried i will be pigeon-holed into roles similar to the one i am in now...

If you don't want to be pigeon holed, I would suggest identifying your transferable skills and constructing a skills-based CV rather than a traditional chronologically organised one. There are some examples here:
Skills-based or functional CV
