probably a bit of a random one, but we found a fallen blackbird fledgeling in our tack room earlier today, well after a lot of searching for him we did any way!!! (its amazing how much clutter horses aquire....)
on first looks he didnt look to be injured, so we were going to pop him in a feed bucket out the way of predators so his parents could still find and feed him, taking him out on to the yard i decided to check him over again in the light, and i found blood on his head and back, i pulled his wings out to check and found a lovely puncture wound under his wing, that looks like a cat bite, so he came home with me to see if we can save him
hes on antibiotics to battle any infection (as cats mouths are one of tthe worst places for bacteria and a bite WILL get infected)
im syringe feeding him mushed up cat food and he has a dish of sunflower hearts and mealworms as well as a wild bird bell, encase he decides to try eat by himself, but i think hes too young for that.
the only thing is im struggling to get him to eat, i think hes a bit bewildered by it all and more then a bit sore, hes doing a lot of crying, but i couldnt leave him alone knowing full well that he may die, chances are the shock of the attack will be too much for him any way
anyway, has any one got any tips on encouraging him to take the food?
a couple of pictures of the little mite
fingers crossed he makes it, if he does we will realse him back in the field, which is set away from the village, and people, and we can supplement feed him in the tack room, which he will still be able to get into through the join in the roof/wall
