Default First Cavity...Can you give me advice?? :)

Hey guys,
So, I have the dentist tomorrow, and I it looks like they are going to have to fill my first cavity. Im always a little nervous when going to the dentist. When im sitting in the waiting room, I have a little bit of butter-flys. When I get in there and sit in the chair, Im fine. My dentist is REALLY nice. She always asks me questions about how I am doing, what sports I play and stuff like that.

But this time however, I am really nervous. Its my first cavity. My mom said "they will just numb it and.." (I cant remember the rest she said ) but I was wondering if any of you have had a cavity? What do they do??

Im fine with getting a shot...but does it hurt? Im a little scared. I know it will be fine...but I need some reassurance. What if they give me laughing gas? That would be kinda funny. Wonder what I would say, lol.

Tips?

You could ask her to numb the gum before putting the jag in. That's what mine does and then they will check with you as to what you can feel before starting to repair the cavity. You may feel a bit of a tickling sensation and a little bit of vibration. Being equally terrified of the dentist I know what you mean. Mine also says she will stop and tells me to put my hand up if I need a break.

Good luck, you'll be fine. Oh just don't eat on it for a while afterwards.

Im back. Its so weird...It wasnt a cavity! They gave me this medcine thingy for what ever it was to put on after brushing, but they said its just becasue my Molars are beginning to show up. But, I did get a tooth pulled. It was my first but didnt hurt at all. It really surprised, though. Half of my mouth, and my nostril (!) is totally numb atm It was a cool experience, you could say

I know how you feel, I don't have any real cavities either...last year I was told I had two very small ones on my back teeth, and I was paranoid as my boyfriend said the dentist will drill a bigger hole...when I got there, all they did was put some white gluey stuff on a cotton bud and kind of 'patched' up the hole with it. It turned out it was only two surface/enamel erosion holes. Also the dentist said I still have a baby tooth...the last dentist I saw 6 years ago said the same and pulled it out, this one didn't bother. I'm glad it went well for you.

I've had a cavity once. They were going to use a metal filling but at the last minute the dentist decided to use a filling that looks like the tooth. That filling was more expensive than the metal filling but they charged me as if they used the metal filling instead. I can't even remember where the filling is though I do remember it was a molar.

They numbed the area with an injection of something like Novocain and my mouth was numb for a while after words. I was drooling and slobbering and everything.

The dentist isn't anything to be nervous about to me. They are there to keep your mouth healthy and pain free.
