Re: Recomended Books
My username is a bit of a giveaway that I also like the His Dark Materials trilogy. I got it at least 5 years ago, I think more and still re-read it when I remember its there and am not reading something else.
The Da Vinci Code is good too, I got that when I was about 16 and have always enjoyed reading that. I also have the entire series of unfortunate events books
Can't think of much that hasn't been suggested though - probably because I can't remember all the books I own lol

Re: Recomended Books
Eek, I hated The da Vinci Code. I thought it was very lazily written.

Re: Recomended Books
Helen Dunmore's Ingo series is fabulous. Even I was spellbound by it and I'm a 'grown up' I think!

Re: Recomended Books
I'm kind of pathetic. I just re-read Harry Potter when I don't have anything to read xD I'll find some of my favorites and post them later

Re: Recomended Books
Hey, Vectis Hamstery - you're the only person I have come across who's read the Silver Brumby series - I loved them when I was about 11. Plus KM Peynton's Flambard's trilogy. Anything with a horse or even the slightest promise of a horse, or even a horse on the cover! (I remember making a mistake with Neville Shute's A Town Like Alice, because it had a horse on the front)
Has anyone read A Day No Pigs Would Die, by Robert Newton Peck? Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men?
And I must put in a word for Patrick Suskind's Perfume, but this is another book which requires maturity; it's not 'rude' per se, but it's about the murder of young women. (But not for the usual serial killer reasons etc).
And one book I can never read again because it is truly heartbreaking on so many different levels - Ethan Frome, by Edith Wharton. (And actually anything by Edith Wharton).
Antoine de Saint Exupery's The Little Prince?

I made the mistake of lending them to my Grandad, who enjoyed the books but was shocked that I had read something "rude" They were in the school library with a note that only year nine and above could take them out (so 14+).

I was obsessed with the trilogy for a while, I really wanted a daemon but it is a good trilogy.
Also Sabriel, Lirael and Abhorsen by Garth Nix, and Neverwhere by Neil Gaimon!

Yay! Someone else who read them! I still have my original rather battered copy of the Silver Brumby books on the shelf next to Anne of Green Gables. I had a similar book choosing style to yours which is how I came across Jean Auel (the second book is called Valley of Horses and has a picture of horses on the cover!). Although lacking in horses, I did like A Town Like Alice, and have recently started retreading another of the books I 'borrowed' from my dad's shelf - Catch-22.
Kissa, Neverwhere was another favourite of mine. I remember staying up late to watch the Tv programme with my Dad.
