Re: Love me, love my hamster
if they didnt like animals at all that might be a deal breaker...i like to have lots of pets
my OH has to like my hamsters because i like them so much...and he has to kiss them all, tell them he loves them and say that he will work extra hard at work to buy them new toys ect! i think he enjoys it really!

Re: Love me, love my hamster
I think that it'd be a deal breaker if they didn't understand why I loved them, or didn't at least try to understand.. my OH thinks I have too many hamsters, but he still is nice to them, and would obviously never be cruel to them.
My OH doesn't really get on with one of my dogs, which upsets me..but it's because she walks on him when he's trying to sleep and won't follow orders..>.< oopsy..

Re: Love me, love my hamster
My OH wasn't really keen on animals when we got together (he'd never had any pets as a child so isn't really used to them) but when we got my first hamster Sootie he fell in love with him and was even brave enough to hold him once, he was so de ashes when Sootie passed it was so sweet I think I have converted him to loving animals and we now have two cats and a hamsters (soon to be two more dwarves as he's said my limit it two cages )
In answer to your question though I don think I could be with someone who didn't like animals at all, I won't push anyone into anything they don't want but I think some people can be persuaded... It just depends which is more important, I mean I wouldn't break off a long term relationship if I found they didn't like hamsters but I probably wouldn't go out with anyone who hated animals...

Re: Love me, love my hamster
My other half is one of those gruff on the outside, but a deeply kind person inside. For example, when he was younger, he was really scared by a pack of dogs and so he doesn't like dogs. But when a friend of ours got a puppy, he would be the friend who drove him to go pick up the puppy. And in time, he even offered to walk the dog and play with the dog - even though he still doesn't like dogs!
I was desperate to have a fuzzypet - so he suggested I get a hamster. As I was between contracts, he actually bought my first lot of hamster equipment. He was somewhat disapproving when I got Evie on impulse, and he tells me not to treat them like children - but he will play with them, let them run on him, give them treats and make funny voices at them - especially when I'm not looking!
So to answer your question - I don't mind dating someone who doesn't like hamsters or animals, but has the ability to be open minded, and make an effort, if they mean something to his friends or me.

Re: Love me, love my hamster
when i first got with my fiance he did say he wasnt a fan of hamsters as they seemed like a boring pet, but after ive had a few whilst been with him he now likes them, he got upset too when i lost fudge and hes always fussing over coco
so i went from dating someone who didnt like hamsters to someone who does

Re: Love me, love my hamster
it wouldnt matter to me if they didnt personally like animals, aslong as they werent cruel to them and understood that i will ALWAYS have animals, and their needs will always come first then thats fine
but an animal lover is always a plus, although i dont think theres any one quite as nuts as me
