Comforting hammy on the last night before they’re put to sleep

Hi I’ve got a gorgeous Syrian hamster called August but Gus for short who is 1 year and 8 months old. She’s sadly got pyometra and is getting put to sleep tomorrow. I am honestly heartbroken, these lil fluff balls do really steal your heart right?

My question is, what should I do with my hamster for her last night? I really want to make the most of the time I have with her but equally she is poorly at the moment. I’m thinking of making paw prints and giving her lots of treats but I was wondering whether anyone else has suggestions.

I'm sorry that you're going to lose your Gus <3
I would say honestly, whatever she's up for - some yummy treats, some cuddles if she likes them, gentle strokes and soft words, and yes, some paw prints if she'll let you! That would be a lovely thing to have <3

Remember that Gus doesn't know so won't be sad like you.
It is truly awful when they leave us.
Those cute little animals leave their pawprints on our hearts and will never be forgotten.

I stayed with our departed ones and talked to them, gently stroked them, told them how much we love them and that they are not alone.
Cherish every minute while she is still with you and try and prepare yourself for the end.
I didn't feel that i wanted to do anything special or commemorative, i just wanted to be there with them.

It is so very hard and i really feel your sorrow.
Think of the good life you gave her because Gus is one of the lucky ones.
