Wow 19 what an amazing age. Your cat looked like a real beauty.

Those pics of baby ham against the glass are just adorable.

Glad you give your kids the advice to 'stay low'. You cant be too careful.

I really adore your cage.

It good that your robo can be handled. Just have to be carefully of falls, like with any hamster. I sit one he settee or my bed while holding my hamster, so if they jump or fall they have a soft landing.

I would love a tame robo or even an untame one as they would be fun to watch. I think after not having a hamster my next one will be a winter white or Russian. I hope to adopt one so it can have a second chance and a forever home.

Following on from the thread where your wheel was mentioned - just wondered if there's any chance you could do a post on how to make one!

Sorry, the task was actually more time consuming than my lengthy explanation . Really there's no reason to make one when you can reasonably buy the great looking Karlie Wonderland wheel. I can't.

It would be easier if you have access to woodworking tools (I used band saw, table saw, miter saw, jig saw, drill, etc...) but I'm sure hand tools would work - just much slower.
- I bought 6" diameter shipping carton, 10" long, with plastic lids at both ends; I cut a section 2.5" and save the rest of the tube for future replacement wheel.
- I also bought a 6" diameter crafting ring; I cut a thinner "ring" from the outer section of it to make the lip of the wheel and discard the inner portion.
- I have a desktop old hard drive which I took apart and save the spinning hub plus its attachment hardware ("washer" and screws).
- With the shipping carton plastic lid, I drilled a large hole to accommodate the hub plus 4 small holes for the securing screws. Try to be exact in the center of the lid when drilling the large hole as it determines how balance/smooth the wheel is (I kinda messed up on one lid).
- I build a base with a perpendicular supporting post which is tall enough to accommodate the wheel.
- I cut 12 pieces of thin wood strips ~2" and glued them evenly spaced inside the wheel as tread for traction. I then glued the carton disc ring to one side of the wheel.
- I mounted the hub onto the supporting post then mounted the plastic lid onto the hub; the screws and the large "washer" kept the lid firmly attached to the hub.
- The wheel (with tread and lip) would just slip onto the plastic lid and it's done.
- The hard drive hub is extremely smooth so if the hole is drilled at center and the tread are spaced evenly then the wheel would spin silently and effortlessly
- I can cut the left-over tube, glue in some new tread, and salvage the lip from the old wheel and have a brand new wheel by just slipping the old one off the hub/lid assembly.
- Sorry for being so wordy

I forgot to post the picture of the crafting ring. The new one is a spare ring in case I need to make a new lip. The smaller one is the discarded portion after the outer lip is cut.

Yeah,I personally wouldn't make one unless it was just not possible to get one where I am or I needed a size that just wasn't available from any manufacturer.Seems like a really good concept overall though

Thanks! Someone from the US was really wanting a wood wheel Just thought your making one might help. I've heard of hard drives being used for making wheels silent before I think. Clever stuff.

Would you mind if I copied your post into a separate thread titled - home made wood wheel? It might give some people inspiration.
