Default New to Forum

Hello all,

we are new to the forum. We have two hamsters, a Russian Winter White (Hammy) and a Campbelli (Truman) hamster.

Hammy is doing great, it's Truman we are concerned about. He seems to scratch a lot. He does not have any fur loss, but some redness around his ears and chest/belly. It doesn't seem to bother him sleeping or eating, but he does not run in his wheel as much as he used to. When he first came home, he ran in his wheel day and night it seemed. He has had some sand baths, but it doesn't seem to stop the scratching. We haven't "seen" any mites, we have no other animals to give fleas to it. Otherwise he "seems" to be okay, just not quite as "healthy" as the other. One more thing. His eyes seem to be slanted or half closed as compared to our other one who has basically big wide black dots of eyes. His eyes look fine, nothing in or around them, they just are not as open and wide.

We want ot see if this is "normal" or if there is something we can try at home first before spending the $84 to take this little guy to the vet.

He is a mini-habitrail cage. We use carefresh bedding and right now they are eating Kaytee hamster food. Their cages get cleaned regularly.

Thanks so much
Kim <--mom to Caroline (9)---caretakers of hamsters and big sister of Matthew (4).
