Apparently pure day light (strong sunshine) helps to still them and to see the nail better. good luck!

Hehe, well we asked the vet if she would cut his nails last time we went and she replied with 'Absolutely not!!' She seemed to think it was pretty insane cutting his nails and they are very good vets.

Im surprised your vet said that tbh, it is important to keep them trim as the can grow under and press into the pad of the paw which is very painful for them, and then he will need the vet to sort him out. It is a bit easier with 2 people, one to hold and one to cut - have you got someone that you could ask to give you a hand?
