Default Bed/food/toilet

Hey everyone,

So i was writing about Morris' bed wetting issues, and i am working on that with him. in the mean time, i went on a spending spree and spent a few to many pennies on him....

Everybody has been telling me the Ferplast Olympia is to small for an adult syrian, but i think i could be ok....i just bought a Habirtail Suite as an extension to his cage! He has LOADS of room to run about in now. I will post a photo of the set up once i connect it all when he wakes up.

But, i have great plans for it, but i want opinions. The Suite has room for his flying saucer in the bottom, so i am moving that down so he has more room in the Ferplast cage section. However, i was also thinking about using the food tray that is in the Habitrail section too to free up even more room. However, i was wondering if it is a bad thing to put his food in a different part of the cage from where his bed is? I am thinking no, as in the wild he wouldnt have food just sitting at his door waiting for him, but maybe hamsters in captivity will act different?

Morris is settling into his bed in his cage fine and loves it, but if i give him extra room, i am thinking he may take it upon himself to re-locate his bed. Can i do anything to prevent this? I would prefer his bed was in the easier to access and clean cage section, rather than the Habitrail section.

Thanks for your help

Not really Rorie! Hams often do as they please and its often not what you want them to do! Thats the beauty of our little furry friends!

If you move his food and he doesn't like it - he will move it back again

With the bed -keep putting it and all the bedding in the same place when you do a clean - but if he wants to drag it somewhere else he more than likely will!

Sounds like it'll be a great add of space!

Its nice to make them work a bit for their food, so putting it another room should cause no problem, porridge has to walk across the cage and up the ramp to his.
But then of course the whole point of them storing food in their beds is so they don't have to get up for a midday snack

Like hope said, unfortunately theres nothing you can really do!
Occasionally hams that are too lazy to spend loads of time bed making *cough, peggy cough*
Won't bother moving it and will always keep it where it is.
