Default Litter training?

I've read that you can litter train hamsters. Can someone tell me how to do this? What bedding/litter do you use? Is it relatively easy to do? If there are any mouse people on here- can you litter train mice too? Thanks in advance!

To litter train your hamster you can get a pot/litter tray for the hamster and fill it with chinchilla sand. Some hamsters will choose to use it autimatically (mine did!) but if they don't then put some wet bedding in to encourage them to pee there Much easier to clean too!

Syrians seem to be better at using a litter tray than dwarf hamsters.

It seems to work better with Syrians who seem to have more of a definite toilet corner but whenever I've tried to litter train my Chinese or my sister's Hybrid, it's not gone very well.

I've seen some people use sand in a toilet tray and others have used a paper based cat litter or something like Back to Nature. I've tried it with both but neither was any more successful than the other.

My dwarfie won't use a litter tray. I use sand and he just hoards there lol. His cage, his choice

I use chinchilla sand in litter trays, all my Russian hams have been really easy to get to use a tray, some even from day one, Chinese hams in my experience have other ideas though!
