Mamble 100 additional level
Hi guys!
I've been stalking this forum for a while now for advice when setting up for my new hammie (technically my son's but she's mine! ). The cage she originally had was so tiny! It was given to me by a friend and I didn't know the size until it was too late - it was about 40 by 30 cm!!! so we have upgraded her to the mamble 100. In just worried about the height. She's an obsessive chewer so hammocks are out of the question and she has already reached the top of the cage so I need a solution!
What's the best way to add another level about half way up so she can only ever fall from half height? I would prefer a full level but all suggestions welcome! I have access to my dads tools so DIYing is okay but spending could do with being kept to a minimum.
Thanks!!

Re: Mamble 100 additional level
There are quite a few old threads showing ideas for the mamble but I'm having trouble finding them, here's a couple that might be helpful.
Tall cage (rat cage) setup for hamster? scroll down to the bottom for photos.
Ruby's great set up is here.
I'm new! Mamble 100 HELP PLZ!!
I used hammocks in my mamble so not much help for a chewer!

Re: Mamble 100 additional level
Thank you they are a great help! I think I'm going to do similar to Ruby's but get some wood that would make an entire level with some holes for tubes. Will double the cage space too.
Another question if anyone is still reading this! She has been displaying some behaviour I didn't see in my previous hamsters (but I was about 8 so maybe I don't remember) she is not interested in toys or space or anything. In her cage or when I attempt to give her some floor time, she just desperately tries to escape. It's not exploring- it's frantic digging.
Is this just due to her previous small cage and the fact we've only had her a couple of weeks or is it something else?
Thanks in advance !

Re: Mamble 100 additional level
It's most likely that she still needs some time to settle into her new home. It sounds like she's going to be a real princess once her castle is complete.

Re: Mamble 100 additional level
That's good to know. I'll keep an eye on her. I think she'll be a diva! Haha. I'm worried about taming her though cuz she has bitten my parents ( although they were sticking fingers through bars!!). She lets me stroke her and comes and looks what I'm messing with in her cage but I don't want to get too close. Hopefully when she learns to love her new home she'll be happy to play and let me have a go at taming.

Re: Mamble 100 additional level
LOL. Actually, fingers through the bars is never good since hamsters check things out a lot like puppies do...with their teeth. They may not even be being aggressive, just curious about what the thing poking into their home is. It's a good idea never to feed them treats like this either. That will make them grab fingers even faster.

Re: Mamble 100 additional level
I never knew that! That's how I started feeding get before I was brave enough to offer treats inside the cage! Great to know, I'll tell my little one to stop too!
Thanks a lot 😊

Re: Mamble 100 additional level
Finally added her new level today! She loves it.
Used screw hooks and a large piece of wood to make the level and have cut a whole above her bed where she usually climbs to the top of cage anyway! Covered half with ripped up toilet paper and added lots of tubes and cardboard hidey holes and egg boxes.
The substrate at the bottom is a mix of shavings and aspen. As we were given loads of shavings so I'm mixing it to minimise negative effects so I can get through it. She seems okay and is only short term so that should be okay right?
I've tried to upload a pic, hopefully it works!

Re: Mamble 100 additional level
It looks good and safe. She can have fun exploring each level and the different tubes etc.
