Re: Little Friends Mamble Rat Cage
I really like the natural looking cages, I just don't know where to get the bits for it from! I used to really love the Naturals range at PAH when I lived in England but here I am totally clueless and I don't wanna pay 10-20 dollars just for P&P! This is my current set up. I try to veer away from plastic because I don't want her chewing on it so I have turned it into a bit of a cardboard city. Although I have put a plastic lid o top of one cardboard box, but I think that I may remove it as it doesn't really add anything. She has made holes in the cardboard to climb through and onto the upper levels and the cardboard is sturdy enough. As soon as it looks like she might dislodge it all/ find it difficult to climb on I change it all up a bit. But I really want some swinging things from the top and some permanent levels (and a new cage, but I will be using this for a new hamster in the future). I think I need to google some homemade ideas. I am just not the best at that stuff!

Re: Little Friends Mamble Rat Cage
I'd be able to help more with DIY's if I knew just what they had in Canada.Do they have Walmart and Target? If they have Target I've seen some storage cubes that may work with a DIY lid and mesh front for ventilation that would be pretty affordable, but I'd have to work out dimensions for those and I don't think they'd hit the UK minimum but would definitely be able to hit up to 450 square inches.

Re: Little Friends Mamble Rat Cage
We don't have Target but we do have Walmart. I have also wondered whether I should buy cheap cages off of kijiji and then make a bin cage with the doors I take off of the cheaper cages?

Re: Little Friends Mamble Rat Cage
You could certainly try that, but it probably would take a lot more effort than just stapling on mesh. You could also mesh over the top of a book case on its side, which is a similar concept to the Detolf but with mesh and no glass but also it's a very simple DIY idea for housing tortoises.Sure, tortoises and hamsters aren't the same, but the concept is definitely worth considering.
