Default Re: Supreme Cosi n Dri v Tumblefresh?

The video I watched was made by a young girl by the sound of her voice. She placed the whole block of Cosi n Dri into a white plastic bin container and broke it up and it turned into a large batch of fluffy soft nesting/bedding and it looks nice. I thought at that price, I may as well give it a go.

I think Tumblefresh is slightly cheaper, but Supreme seem to have quite a few of these pulp-based beddings on the go and it`s tricky knowing which ones are the best. Because you bought and tried it Serendipity, that gave me some hope that the Cosi n Dri was a good product and the revues I`ve read online all seem very positive as well. I should have it by the end of next week if Steve manages to get it for me. His wife did say that it was showing as in stock, but also said that the site wasn`t clear whether it was available where they go to buy in their stock, so I will have to wait and see. She will email me soon though to let me know. x

Getting Cosi n Dry on Friday! They managed to get me a pack but the shop is closed until Thursday for a holiday. No worries though, I really wanted it for the colder months but it gives me a chance to air it out and give Chubs a few handfuls and see what he thinks! x

It`s here! Couldn`t get on the forum earlier on so had to wait until now to post. The Cosi n Dri bedding is lovely. Soft texture, doesn`t smell of anything other than what I can only describe as....wet paper?

I removed the block of bedding from the plastic wrapper and broke it up into a spare storage bin. It expands from the 8 Litre block to fill the whole bin! Comparing this with Carefresh, it`s a no brainer really. It`s softer and virtually dust free, although you can see some very VERY fine residue when you mash it up, it`s nothing compared to what you would get with Carefresh or wood shavings.

I popped a small handful near Chub`s box opening and within minutes, he was pulling inside his nest! I cleaned his pee corner late last night so will wait another few days to go in again and add more. But first impressions of this bedding are a 9 out of 10 and it would be 10 out of 10 really but I always find a reason to mark down and that would possibly be the fact that although it`s wood pulp, it feels and looks like paper pulp and al beddings have a little residue, but Cosi n Dri has impressed me, I have to say. I was never a fan of Carefresh and avoided such products in the past, but Chubs will be two years old in December, so I feel he now deserved better than wood shavings, so all being well, I will continue to use Cosi n Dri for Chubs.

Many thanks to Serendipity for the earlier pointers on this bedding. It still confuses me though why Supreme who make Cosi n Dri have Carefresh and Tumblefresh on the market? It seems to me they could all be one and the same? But they are obviously not in terms of quality. x

Excellent! I like it too. I know isn't it weird that they produce these different products and some are dusty and some aren't. I think one of the others says 'from the makers of Megazorb' on the back so maybe they have a deal or something.

I`ll have to put my research skills into practice me thinks! I wondered whether Tumblefresh was any good but now that I`ve seen Cosi n Dri up close, I`m not sure their other products can match it. Megazorb has been going for years but the first (and last) time I tried it, I got half a bag from someone (can`t remember who as I had rats at the time) and it smelled like chicken poo, I kid you not! It stank, so it got binned. I then took a chance with Carefresh one winter when I kept mice, thinking it would be a nice cosy bedding for them. Two of my mice started to sneeze and wheeze and I remembered I also had the flu at that time and didn`t have the energy to go to my vet and one of my wee mice died from respiratory complications and they were both fine before I used Carefresh. One of the reasons I never used it after that.

I don`t know if Supreme are still adding bicarb or whatever it was to Carefresh because I can only see it causing illness. I`m sure they said they were removing it but because I don`t follow what the company do, I can`t be sure if they did or not. I would warn anyone who does buy Carefresh to check the packaging closely before buying it, or better still, switch to Cosi n Dri. x

I think a Carefresh manager posted on here that Eurpean Carefresh didn't have baking soda in and it was no longer being added to US Carefresh from a certain date. I also tried Tumblefresh and it was very dusty.

Thanks Serendipity. Won`t be touching their Tumblefresh then. I think what I will do, is buy a small bale of Snowflake wood shavings at some stage and use half and half. I will use the Cosi n Dri around his nesting box and the wood shavings across most of the cage. That`s what he`s used to.

Still means I will have to sieve the shavings though, but given Snowflake are virtually dust free, that shouldn`t take long. It will be nice to use both because until the winter months come in, I feel Cosi n Dri might be too warm underfoot, so will possibly use it more during the winter and little in the warmer months. x

Just to add, Megazorb definitely should not smell like chicken poo, that sounds really horrid! Each batch can vary a little but usually it has a very slight sweet smell that I can only describe as a bit like yoghurt. I've used it for gerbils for years and swear by it. The chicken poo smell is definitely not normal so I definitely think you got a duff batch there. For the £7 or so you pay for a bag, it might be worth trying again if you're still checking out the options!

That said, as beddings go I've noticed it can be fairly dusty? I'd say it's less dusty than Carefresh but I'm not sure how it would stack up against other competitors.

Thanks acweorna. I`m sure your right about the Megazorb I was given. It was so long ago that it may have been stored badly and by the time I got it, may have been soured. I imagine it`s like any other paper or wood pulped bedding in that it will have a certain amount of packing dust. Supreme Cosi n Dri is the first recycled pulped bedding I`ve given a try due to bad experiences in the past and my little Russian dwarf is liking it so far. I placed two handfuls outside his nesting box and it`s all been dragged inside!

I would have a go with megazorb again but given the size of the bag, if I found it not suitable, I would have wasted money I could have spent on more Cosi n Dri! It sounds good value at around £7 a bag though, but it`s the quality of the product that interests me and I know Megarorb can be hot or miss in that respect. Bet the gerbils love digging in it! x

Edited to add: Looking into Megazorb, some folks suggested it smells of yoghurt/cream? So maybe that`s why it smells `off` if it`s kept in a damp area? If I could get a bag locally, I might give it a go sometime. x

Well, you can add me to the list (if there is one) of converts to Supreme Cosi n dri. I got my bag a few days ago, and I just finished cleaning Mr. Carlisles cage. I REALLY like it! I just hope he feels the same. I'm using it in most of the cage, and I also have aspen shavings in his potty corner, and under his wheel.
Serendipity, I tip my hat to you for supplying the link. After seeing it on Amazon UK, I went to Amazon US and was able to find it. It looks like no one has bought this product here yet. I gave it a great review on Amazon. I really like the natural color, as I have the green, beige and brown theme going on in my cage. Racing hamster, thanks to you as well for your comments on different kinds of bedding It's very helpful.
Now, I just have to wait for Mr. Carlisles review of the bedding.
