My new cages
Well having decided that I need to keep at least 2 of my pups as I am so attached and couldn't bear them going to someone who doesn't love them like I can...I have been shopping! I am absolutely certain I could never breed hammies! LOL, how do you guys let them go..?
I did consider bin cages but I would have had to drive into town and find tubs and buy tools and I am almost certain I would do it wrong!! So instead I am having hamster cages for my Christmas present!! It was the only way to persuade my dear husband!! So I have bought more Rotastak..(please don't groan I love it!!)
http://www.netpetshop.co.uk/p-18015-rot ... -cage.aspx
I ordered 2 of these as they were the best value for the number of cages. I also got 10% off (order code 'FWP' if anyone wants stuff) and free delivery for spending over £49, came to £52 all in. Think I got a good deal and these will be fine until I can afford to expand them in the new year. They should be here tomorrow as they were sent 24 hour, although I won't be needing them for a while yet!!

Re: My new cages
Oooh, creepy castle! one of my all time favourites Mine lasted for about 3 years, until I found myself tight for space and got a savic cambridge. At the moment, ive got a ZZ1 waiting to be used for my new dwarfies :P
That is a great deal because when I got my first Rotastak, just the Maxi Mansion cost me £40, so all that for £50 is a superb deal. i had the Maxi Mansion to start off with, then i gave it to my cousin and got the creepy castle.
Good luck with the cage, it seems like a lot of space for 2 pups, hope they dont get lost

Re: My new cages
They will grow into it soon enough I think!! Mavis's cage has more space than that actually as she has a maxi room, cosmo pod, dining room, one round extension and an attic, her was the fairground rotastak with the extras bought separately!! She also has the 'curly wurly' tube set and extra tunnels but she is pretty stripped sown to nothing whilst the pups are so small! She is forever zipping around in it all. I used to have Rotastak years ago and its much better these days, the units have more floor space (only ever used to get the round ones), much larger wheels that are separate to the cage units, and easier access for your hamster. I know its not for the kids to live in but they love to see Mavis charging through her tubes and the do look like fun! Another reason I wanted the Rotastak again as is it will look right next to the cage we already have!
I will probably build the cages up the way mainly, as to get 3 complete systems on my unit is going to be tight. Still the way they run up them it won't be a problem. I have seen a few reviews saying that they are too small for Syrians, have you experienced this? Mavis is probably my 9th hamster in Rotastak and I have never had a problem with size...
Anyway, perhaps when I have been using the cages for a while I will write a review.

I'm not so keen on Rotastak, but you got a good deal! My next cages are going to be IMAC fantasies

Re: My new cages
I think that what you are happy with is what counts as long as the hammy is active and seems to enjoy the cage. Breeder hamsters from people who show hamsters tend to be much larger than pet shop hamsters and there can be problems with keeping them in rotastac however if your hammy is a more dainty one there should not be any reason not to use the cages. They can be hard to get hamsters out of to tame but your babies should already be nice and tame. One thing to watch though is the small pod bedrooms which can become very stuffy and damp with mould growing in the bedding as there is little ventilation. This can cause chest infections in hamsters. You may need to drill out extra ventilation holes if this happens so keep a close eye.

Re: My new cages
Thanks souffle, I will keep an eye out for that.
I am definitely keeping two, maybe three (!) I should know for sure later today. Basically if the friend decides she wants one that's okay but I am not looking for homes anymore!!
Of the two that are definitely mine, one is a choc band who I am quite taken with who I keep calling wily and the other is the gingery one...not sure what colour he is...or even the sex ... I'll post pics in a day or two, they haven't opened their eyes quite yet so don't want to break forum rules!! I think I kind of agreed the kids could choose a name for 'their' hammy. One each...so probably my daughter Amy will want to name one after herself (just like the goldfish!). My son will probably call his Thomas or Horrid Henry!! I might have my own names...

Re: My new cages
JUST TO WARN YOU
I had a crisis when I got the dining room extension. My first hamster, Eddie, chewed at the food trough and I cant remember if he made a hole in the trough or pushed it out, but either way, he did a Houdini on me! I got him, but I had to take out the dining room, didnt want that happening again!
So, if your hamster is a chew-maniac, be careful!
And a syrian hamster will have plenty of room in that rotastak, especially with all the accessories added to it

Re: My new cages
Eeek - we haven't had much chewing yet (apart from toilet roll tubes but then Mavis has been busy. I've never had a ham escape from Rotastak yet. I did hear of someone else that happened too with the dining room though...
