I also have not thought of making the shelf higher, but the house Screech was in would fit under hte shelf so no need really. I like the pink theme, very girly and cute

Many people like these cages and I hope to see more and how they have been converted. The way we have dont them, you can ay they are definitely not identical but the same. lol. Each cage has their own way and personality.
There is so many waya cage can be designed and then bettered.
I found the space under the shelf was wasted, as I couldn't get much under it. I would love to have kept both shelves in, but I just couldn't fit her wheel and her flying saucer in (and she does love them both!). I guess that's the disadvantage of having a Syrian

I think you are right about each cage having their own personality. I am sure if you gave 10 people the same cage, every cage would end up being different!

That's a crazy impressive set up you have there! Sure to keep any ham happy. Kudos on your building skills (and your hammy's name is hilarious)

I ws thinking about the alterations to making it open front. I was thinking of having the top fixed to the sides and just the front opening. I thought about having it open to the left, right up or down. Which ever way, the door was way to big for either.

I took the top shelf out because it was not wanted and also Screech fell off it and bounced on the middle shelf and landed on the floor. Luckily, she didnt hurt herself. I think the cage looks better with the one shelf.

I have this cage in my watch list on eBay and I'm so glad that you Ian and Piggy have posted your pictures. It's really interesting seeing how you both made the front openings, as I would have to do the same.

They are both incredibly attractive and look amazing. Congratulations on your achievements for your hams.

The more I think about either investing in these cages or detolfs for the girls the more I think that I'm going to have to get rid of my table in order to make space but for the time being, I will continue to think about the changes.

Being on my own and with my own limitations, I have to keep within strict limits and what I have currently works but I'd love to expand into something else.

Thank you so much for this thread and seeing two variations of this cage. It certainly gives me more food for thought.

You could always put the cage on the table. I talked my wife into putting her (slow and old) computer away so she could do her work and everything on my laptop. She surfs the web on my Ipad and hardly turns her computer on. She finally agreed and now, the cage is on a computer desc which is about the size of a table. It is about 3mm wider than the cage, so it just fits. lol.

I have ordered one of these now Ian!
Looking forward to it arriving and will ask my hubby to do a few adjustments based on your experience and ideas! Many thanks for sharing your handy work with us.
I too am getting rid of a computer desk to accommodate. hoping to put a shelf the length of the wall to slide storage boxes underneath

My cage is on the computer desk. Up to a manageable height for me. getting too old really to keep kneeling on the floor with a bad back. lol.

Well done in buying one. You wont be disappointed. They are massive and very roomy. They dont look all that big in pics, but when you have one small russian dwarf, it is like a mansion. A syrian would love it as well.

From what I have found out with them, they have to be converted to front opening, even if to save our sanity, as putting a corner loo in a far corner on hte floor is a pain in the neck, shoulders and back. lol. Cant wait to see pics of the new cage when it is set up and occupied.
The size for the price is well worth it.

I've put mine on a table too, my poor back couldn't cope with all the bending either! I bought a 4 ft trestle table off eBay and it's just the right size and I have plenty of storage space underneath it. You do need for it to be front opening if you put it on a table though.
