Hamster Sneezing
My 2 month old Syrian hamster recently started sneezing a lot. She especially starts sneezing when burrowing. We've tried three different beddings (two brands of paper and aspen) but she sneezes with all of them. When put in a cardboard box she doesn't sneeze nearly as much so we're thinking it's an allergy to the bedding. Just seeing if anyone has any recommendations of what I should do since bedding is kind of essential. She has no other symptoms and is acting completely healthy otherwise...

Re: Hamster Sneezing
I use the paper substrate Ria mentioned, it’s probably the least dusty of all the substrates I’ve tried & there shouldn’t be any risk of allergy with paper.

Re: Hamster Sneezing
Yes I have tried Kaytee clean and cozy. When she was a about a month old she used this and had no issue but now it causes her to sneeze along with the aspen. She is currently just on a piece of cardboard and chewing her own cardboard bedding that doesn't make her sneeze. She chewed a hole through the cardboard and made herself a little tunnel underneath, but I feel terrible since I know they need to burrow. She is also very desperate the escape and seems really bored and I think it has to do with the bedding situation.

Re: Hamster Sneezing
Clean and Cozy can unfortunately be dusty at times, so I'm not personally all that surprised that it could be causing problems too.
I would try Small pet Select's paper bedding or Oxbow Pure Comfort. Both are virgin fiber dye free etc - Kaytee is not. Small Pet Select in particular is known to have extremely low if any dust, while Kaytee in general does get more mixed reviews at times. I know for me it triggered my own allergies!

I don't know if you're in the UK or not but have you tried finacard?
