Actually yes - that's how someone else recaptured a hamster recently - using a female's sand or bedding. So even if you can't borrow a female hamster, you could maybe borrow some of their bedding!

Well idk if its blown air or not but I can hear air coming and going through the vents a lot. I tried putting my hand down there and feeling around but I could feel nothing. I just miss my little buddy and wish he would come back.

He still has not come back... I have been missing him all day he is such a great little's and he does not deserve to get hurt I just hope he makes a safe return one day.

I'm not sure if its a syrian or not, I have only had experience with escaped syrians. Twice I found the escapees by accident when I have left a spare wheel on the floor and in the middle of the night they got on and started running in it. You can put some seeds or corn ,something that will make a lot of racket when they run in it. On time said hamster had gone downstairs and 3 rooms over all night and in the morning she came back to the room where her cage was. So, I would put the wheel in whatever room her cage is in as they now by smell where that is I believe.

Well I am in a studio apartment so there are not many places for him to really go besides the vents... I have not heard him make any noise yet but I have not smelled anything or seen any flies gathering either so maybe that's some good news? I get depressed every time I think about him to it sucks I miss my little...

From what you have said - if the vent goes down a long way and leads to other rooms/apartments, he is unlikely to come back up it and will try and get out somewhere else. So it does seem unlikely you will find him in your apartment and you'll maybe have to hope someone else finds him in theirs and lets you know. It's still worth putting out food and a bucket trap, or wheel in case he didn't go down the vent and is hiding under your kitchen cupboards or something. It must be horrible not knowing.

I just discovered that yes the vents do go into other apartments but if the vents are in some way the same as mine he will not be able to get back up any vents... it is not a far drop down in the vents but it does seem like it would be hard for him to climb back up I stuck a ruler down into it and it barely reached the bottom with my hand as far in as could be. I put his hamster ladder down the vent away so he has a way to get back up my vent if he can find his way back... I just hope he didin't have to suffer any, that is what is really getting to me the most is the thought that he may have suffered and that I may never know it just kills me inside thinking about it because he did not deserve that and I feel like its my fault that he escaped.... I really hope he is just hiding somewhere in my apartment!

Wrathzone it isn't your fault. Hams have a natural instinct to explore and escape. The ladder was a brilliant idea! you can also use pop-sickle sticks to make longer ones if the vent is particularly deep.

I just miss him really bad he was a great hamster pal and I cared for him a lot.
