Re: Hamster with both eyes closed
Hello!
I have news about Molly. Yesterday I caught Molly, and I could open her eyes, she had secretions in her eye lids, so I cleaned her eyes very well, and then Molly could open her eyes.
In the night I put her in the wheel, and Molly started to run. Molly love the wheel, I put a stair near the wheel, then she climbed and used the wheel by herself. She run very fast!! Today she dawned whit the eyes closed again, so I cleaned her eyes in the morning, and I put in her eyes eye drops (tobramycin). A person told me that vet sent this eye drops for her hamster, because her hamster had conjunctivitis. After I cleaned her eyes she could open her eyes again ![](https://www.hamstercentral.com/community/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif) .
Here you can see Molly runing in her Wheel, she has her eyes open in the photo:

She is so tiny! I'm so glad that she has a loving and caring home now. I have read through the forum and you are doing a great job with her. Did the pet shop sell you her? It is sad that she was taken away from her mum so soon but I'm pleased she has someone that loves and cares for her! I wish you the best of luck

Re: Hamster with both eyes closed
Oh wow, Molly is adorable! I agree with whoever it was that said they wanted to cuddle her! (Sorry, after reading through all the posts I forgot!). It's great that she has you taking care of her, and also great that you have joined us here at Hamster Central, as there are people with so much knowledge, not to mention all the gorgeous hamster pics!
She's such a tiny baby. I don't know hold old she is, but she is so cute!!
I was just thinking ... If her eyes only get stuck after she wakes, could she have some sort of problem with sleep in her eyes? I don't know a lot about hamster health to be honest. Although a friend of mine once had a hamster (also called Molly!) who was a bit like this and she said that her hamster had blocked tear ducts. She just bathed the eyes in warm, previously boiled (so sterile) water with cotton wool, twice a day, or more if the eyes were really bad. She also found that changing the substrate and bedding in the cage helped a bit, as it was less dusty so wasn't affecting her eyes too much. That Molly lived til the ripe old age of 2 and a half! She was also a Syrian. I hope your Molly gets better soon! She sounds like a very lucky little girl to have found someone like you!

Thank you!! ![](https://www.hamstercentral.com/community/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif) I am very happy because, Molly has both eyes open now. I believe that the eye drops are helping to cure her eyes.

Re: Hamster with both eyes closed
Goodness you can see how tiny she is next to that bendy stick bridge! Lovely to see her with her eyes open. I'd just be careful with eye drops being in date. Once opened they generally only have a shelf life of four weeks.

Re: Hamster with both eyes closed
Panda, the other Molly always had it, though it varied in how bad it was from day to day. But she died from old age, not from whatever caused her eye issues
As someone else said, see if there is a vet in your country who specialises in "exotic animals". Molly should really have it seen to, in case she needs some antibiotics or something. I'd keep cleaning it too. Sounds like she's doing great though!
