Thanks Cypher, unfortunately I'd already ordered the buttercup yellow I hope it's not too lemony a colour, I do prefer a nice deep buttercup. I'm sure Pumpkin wont be fussed either way though lol
I'm just waiting for all the cork etc. to arrive now...

I've just ordered some Silver plastikote - little boy wanted some lego hair for his lego ninja and it had to be silver - we could only find the blond lego hair so I ordered some silver plastikote so we could paint it silver lol! So at some point Charlie might end up with silver stuff in his cage lol.

Buttercup yellow sounds lovely!

I had a reply from Karlie wonderland. It's disappointing...

Dear Leila,
Thanks for your Message and excuse the circumstances and the late answer.
Normally, for the processing of complaints, the retailer is primarily responsible where the product was purchased, because the purchase contract was regulated with them. As a wholesaler and supplier, we then wrap the claims directly with the dealers. I can´t say why the problem with the wheel occurred from here. But in this case I will help you quickly. Please send me a copy from the bill and your address.
I hope I could help you with my answer and you agree with my suggestion.
Best regards,
Customer Care

I think maybe the supply chain is quite complex and it isn't Karlie that builds these items themselves. Which would explain why they look identical to the new P@H wheels, they're probably from the same manufacturer which means that there's a risk on these products too. Karlie possibly doesn't even handle the items, just ships them on to the next customer...
I'm guessing the supply chain is a bit like this:
MISC Manufacturer (builds toy) => Logistics/ Warehouse company (possibly packages/ stores and transports part) => Karlie (stores and distributes toy to various customers) => Zooplus => People like me and Pumpkin
If their misc manufacturer is making large quantities of parts on batch for different customers then it makes sense why it's hard to control the quality...

Dammit guys, I think I'm gona take this to a consumer organisation/ ombudsman! That's the right thing to do right?

That totally sucks to be blunt about it.
I think you're probably right about the chain Leila but if Karlie are putting their name to a product then I really think they should take on responsibility for the quality of that product.
It sounds as though they may want to send you a refund or something, a nice way of avoiding the problem basically.
If you're up for taking it further go for it, I wouldn't really know where to start but this sort of thing really annoys me!

The ninja does sound cool btw!

If that isn`t passing the buck then I don`t know what is. Look at Fluffy bedding, how long have we complained about it`s safety, yet we STILL see it in pet shops and places like Poundstretcher because it`s cheap and sells.

Leila, you may need to delve a wee bit deeper but goodness knows how easy they will make it for you to find out who IS responsible for making and finally checking these wheels before they are sealed and shipped to the retailer. This seems to me to be a quality control issue and if a child`s toy was sold and found to cause splinters, it would be withdrawn from sale immediately no doubt. Why are animal products any different?

We have rights through the sale of goods act, but this is a quality control/safety issue, so if Karlie don`t make these wooden wheels, the line has to go back to where they are made and the parts constructed. This is where the problem exists, but given we now know that they sell cork-lined wheels and state that they are a safer wheel, they seem to be saying that if you buy the unlined wheel, you take your chances! x

Edited to add: BBC Watchdog or Don`t Get Done, Get Dom....spring to mind!

Yes that's what kind of annoyed me when I sent the photos to Zooplus the other day. It's all very well giving a refund (or partial refund) but there was no comment at all about 'the quality control of these products' seeming to be a problem at the moment - as I pointed out saying it was my second replacement.

The amazing thing is they sell for £30 on Amazon! Can you imagine paying £30 and getting something that hasn't been finished properly? Yes their reply sounds like a cop-out Leila.

I'll post a pic of the silver hair when it's done next week lol!

Yes please do. You do not have to figure out who makes them I believe. The seller is responsible and if the problem is with the manufacturer the seller has to get their money back from the manufacturer. A consumer advocate can help you with how to go about getting your complaint heard, and add some clout. Thank you from all of us for pursuing it on behalf of hams everywhere.

Let us know if you need any help Leila - it's a lot for one person to do for all of us! I can add a bit about my wheels if you want. It's all very well us checking them, sanding them and plastikoting them, but they should arrived in a state that is fit to put straight in a cage - as I did with my first one.
