Default follow on from urgent help needed

Hi,
I probably should have put this on another thread but on friday we found one of our hamsters bleeding from the behind and unfortunatley we had to put it to sleep.....however the second one perky, has now got the same symptoms, I have just phoned the vets and they have informed me that it could be wet tail and my partner is away to pick up antibiotics for him can anyone tell me what wet tail is.

Thanks

Darren

I`m sorry to hear this after your recent loss which must still be raw for you. Do you know the gender of Perky? Females do seem to be more prone to this type of thing (bleeding from behind) but that`s not to say males can`t pass blood either in their urine or faeces. I do hope this time around the antibiotics help. I always fear the worst when I see blood because I`ve lost both a female mouse and a chinese female hamster from similar symptoms. I wish you well with wee Perky. x

I'm really sorry to hear that Perky is ill as well. Isn't he a Dwarf - and isn't Wet-Tail only associated with Syrians - or have I got that wrong?

Rhink&Co, syrians get wet tail more commonly than dwarves but I think dwarves can still get it. (Either that or dwarves still get something very similar)

Stellamonster - Best of luck to all of you with this, I really hope he recovers. How is your daughter coping this time?

Aww! I do hope Perky gets better... I know you must be still mourning from the loss of your other hamster. Sugar and I both send healing waves and hugs Perky's way!

Hi all and thankyou for you kind words.
Sorry for the late post but with work and looking after perky its been a bit hectic.
Anyway, we have been giving perky antibiotics through a syringe which she dosent like very much for the past three days and seems to be doing ok, we have cleaned and disinfected her cage and taken out all the toys, of which have been cleaned and disinfected also.
Perky still has a little blood coming from her bottom but no where near as bad as pinky, so fingers crossed the antibiotic are working, she is eating and drinking normally and have given her some cheese biscuit snacks, she loves them.
Hopefully perky is on the mend now and our daughter has been great through this and is being really helpful.
Thanks for your replies and we will let you know how Perky is doing
Darren and family.

I'm very happy to know Perky is getting better! I am also glad to know you disinfected everything in her cage. I'm sure shes happy herself that she feels better.
