I am heartbroken with you Ruby about Spike's passing. He was one of the greatest characters here since I joined anyway. His videos having fun with radiators, cardboard and books made him a true original. You gave him the most fantastic life and loved him and cared for him until his final breath. We loved him too from afar.
I am sorry you are leaving us but it's understandable.
Play well at the bridge Spike. There will be so much fun to be had.
RIP Your Royal Fluffiness and thanks for the memories.

Oh Ruby I am so very sorry.
Spike was such a wonderful little man & loved so very much, he had the best possible life with you & I am glad it ended peacefully with him passing to the bridge in your arms.
I know how much the loss must hurt & how much you will miss him *huge hugs*

Run free & play well at the bridge Spike.

Thank you all for your lovely words. I loved sharing Spike's adventures with everyone and having this thread to look back on is comforting. I'm still finding myself randomly crying whenever I think of him. I went to give him his dinner at 6pm and he had moved from the central chamber of his house to near the entrance. It seemed like he had been trying to leave the house but couldn't manage it. Even though the living room was very warm he was a bit cool to the touch but still breathing. I knew then that it wouldn't be long. Hubby and I sat on the couch and I held him to my chest. He woke up after a while, and we spent the next 3 hours just holding him and talking to him. His breathing became progressively more laboured until finally he just didn't draw another breath. I feel like I missed that moment of his passing because I just suddenly realised that he was gone.

I cleaned out his Detolf the next morning. I just couldn't face looking at the cage knowing he wasn't in there. I still need to do the drawers it was standing on that has all his stuff in it but I haven't been able to bring myself to do it yet.

Since we are renting and likely to move soon I just didn't feel right burying him in the garden so I have had him cremated. His ashes will be returned next week. I have bought a small silver box with his name engraved on the top to put them in. I'll keep them until I feel ready, whenever that might be.

The cremation sounds like a good idea and the silver box sounds a lovely fitting memorial. So hard xxx Give yourself time. Maybe cover the detolf and shelves up with a sheet for a while if you don't feel quite ready and they are there to be seen and remind you.

The reminders are hard at first but it does get easier & all the wonderful memories will outweigh the grief, it does take time though & it's different for all of us so just go at your own pace now.
Reading about your last hours with Spike was so touching, I'm sure he needed absolutely no reminders of how much he was loved but he must have appreciated it so much as he passed to the bridge.
The silver box does sound lovely & will be special treasure.

Aww Ruby, the silver box with Spike's name on it sounds so beautiful.
Reading how you found him reminds me of how I found Archie and I wrapped him up and held him and spoke softly. Nothing prepares you for the emptiness you feel or the emotions you go through.
Thank you for giving me so many laughs with videos of Spike and the radiator. I truly enjoyed catching up with your thread. Big Hugs to you and your hubby xxx
