Where do you put them?!
Ok - for people who have quite a few hamsters - here's the question. Where do you put their separate cages? Next to each other? In different rooms? Other side of the room from each other? On top of each other? eg if you had 2 syrians in different cages, is it best to keep them well away from each other and likewise if you had a set of robos in one cage and campbells in another cage are the cages ok next to each other? Just thinking - lol - maybe I could get some dwarf hamsters.

Re: Where do you put them?!
All of my cages are on shelving units, which are at a reasonable distance from each other and I've never had issues with it, they seem to get used to it pretty quickly.

Re: Where do you put them?!
Hamster mania! I love it. I keep both of my hams on the same dinning room buffet style piece of furniture so their cages are next door to one another.

I have seven at the moment - there is one out of the picture
I think the only time some people may experience problems with hamsters being kept to close, is if they have a female in heat next to a male, but I've not had any issues with that either luckily.

Re: Where do you put them?!
I have three cages, two hybrids & one chinese spread around my living room, the only room that's big enough, they are quite well spaced apart though.

Re: Where do you put them?!
Mine are also on shelves in one room, though I have some cages stacked also. I haven't had a problem with hams getting upset being close - though my rescue hybrid Bart did take quite a fancy to his shelf mate, one of my show Chinese hams!

Re: Where do you put them?!
I have two stacked on top of each other and the other next to them. My first male Syrian used to get over excited when my female was in heat but I kept him in another room. These two don't seem to care/notice yet.

Re: Where do you put them?!
Mine don't seem too bothered about who they can smell. It might have more of an effect on relationships between groups of hamsters though. One of my gerbils started getting very agitated when I brought the hamsters home though, unfortunately she has since passed on and my remaining gerbil doesn't seem to care.

Re: Where do you put them?!
On one side of the lounge, I have my little hybrid in her Alexander cage. It fits in perfectly (just!) between the wall and the kitchen door frame so she has to stay there as it wouldn't fit anywhere else. On top of that cage, is a ZZ2 with one of my robos. On the opposite side, I have my male syrian in his Alaska. Stacked on top of him is my female syrian in her Barney. I adopted another little robo and got her a ZZ2 so she has to be in the bedroom as that was the only space I could find.
