EXACTLY that! I am quite angry actually, the girl in question obviously took no notice of my advice what so ever. Poor Mummy Robo

Re: New Baby
On another note, I was thinking, in the wild, humans aren't there to stop hamsters from mating back to back, so isn't it natural that they could handle it?

What a cute little baby! How about Q-Tip? That poor mama hammy. Just when are they going to stop breeding her? At least this little one is safe with you. beautiful little ham.

In the wild their main "purpose" is to reproduce, they won't live as long in the wild as they do in captivity anyway so if they suffer from back to back litters at least they've already contributed lots of pups to the existence of the species.
In captivity we want them to survive and be fit and healthy and back to back litters will often cause problems, its just that in the wild the ham will likely die relatively young anyway so its not as big a problem. Plus in the wild we can't interfere to try and help them live longer
In the wild the natural resources also limit things - a female won't breed constantly if she can't eat enough to support the pups, in captivity she'll never run short of food so doesn't have as many reasons to avoid reproducing constantly.
She's adorable Starlight

Re: New Baby
That makes sense Kryll, thanks. Especially not breeding if there isn't enough food. I guess we do provide ideal breeding conditions compared to the wild. lol Where else can they get cooked eggs, porridge, no predators (hopefully) and unlimited water?

Re: New Baby
Thanks everyone!
I agree with whats been said about the pair having another litter. Makes me angry, I didn't really know what to say when she told me as I was a bit gobsmacked that she'd not separated them already.
The newbie has settled in wonderfully, she seems to be enjoying having a wheel and food bowl all her to herself!
I handled her last night and she almost fell asleep in my hands hehe! She's so calm it's unbelievable! I put her into a jar and tried to work out if she's a boy or a girl and I think that she's a girl. I'll try and get some pics to see if you guys can help out hehe!
